So, Any Firefly Fans Taking the Browncoat Cruise?

Looks fun, but Jewel’s not going. :frowning:

If Jewel isn’t going to be there, then neither am I. She was the only reason I watched that show. Well, her and Moreena. And Summer. And the writing. And the whole concept…
I’ll come in again.

Riverdance lessons! Hoo-doggy!

I’m a fan of Firefly, and I’m a fan of cons, and I think a cruise could be fun–but this sounds like an accident waiting to happen to me. I’m not sure I can explain why, though.

It’s all fun and games until someone gets kicked into the engine intake

I’ve been to local cons, and met Ron Glass, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, and Adam Baldwin (met = got stuff signed, attended their Q&A sessions) and of the four, Ron Glass was the least entertaining. (Well, Morena didn’t do a Q&A, but she was extremely gracious and, well, check out my location and you’ll get an idea of my opinion of her.

But Mr. Glass just didn’t seem to get it. He seemed genuinely puzzled as to why we where there and why we SO enthused. It was a little frustrating. Alan and Adam were both hilarious, especially Alan when he was encouraged to “say the line.” He kind of smiled, rolled his eyes, and in a very “yadda yadda yadda” voice delivered, “I’m a leaf on the wind. Eegghh!” It was all fun and you could tell he appreciated our enthusiasm for him, the show, and Firefly/Serenity in general. Plus, it didn’t hurt that he grew up about 10 minutes from where the con was taking place.

Adam’s con was right after Serenity came out, so the awareness of him and the show was at it’s peak. His Q&A was great fun, even if he DID decline the invitation to sing the Jayne song.

This isn’t to disparage Mr. Glass at all. I love his character in Firefly and I think he did a damn good job. And it’s not like everyone can understand why some folks feel so strongly about the series. But he’s the last person I would have expected to attend the cruise. The cynic in me wonders if it’s because he’s the least busy.

Maybe it finally clicked for him. I remember last year at Comic-Con, at the Battlestar Galactica panel, seeing Edward James Olmos absolutely agog at the reception they got. It was his first con ever, and it blew him away. Maybe Ron Glass just had that kind of epiphany.

you realize that’s not actually dancing with River, right?

That could be dicey even if it was. There are some Rivers you don’t want to cross.

If I was gonna go on a cruise, this would be the one. Mebbe if I hit Powerball between now and November or something.
