So apparently #Calexit is trending

Those are the HUMAN hating environmentalists I rail against. They want to see human beings diminished and fewer of them in the world because they find them to be cancerous.
This does beg a more general question… once we no longer have to deal with conservatives in trumpland… will we be at each others throats instead as liberals?

We do have conservatives too but they have been domesticated and made mostly inert. I can imagine vicious fights with pc police and campus social justice warriors from my position as what I consider a true liberal liberal, and the same goes for my more moderate stance on environmental issues and building. I want to see a modern cityscape built atop the entire Bay Area and other places.

And that would require the building of massive amounts of power plants which would run on what? Coal? Oil? Nuclear? You plan on building those plants in CA? Oh, and good luck defending yourselves from the Union army.

Why haven’t you already done this?

The Trumpfederacy will beg California to buy its water after their economy collapses and that’s all they have left to sell. Don’t worry, we’ll pay a mostly fairish price.

As the leader of a new movement, how much investigation have you done into ballot initiative laws in HI, OR, WA, and NV

I live in California too. The corner would turn on fighting desalinization once people realize they’d need it to water their crops.

OTOH, what’s Trump going to do? Shut off the Colorado River? :dubious:

Good luck paying the Union Army when your economy collapses on its own…even without some accident like the Culpepper Switch suddenly crashing…just sayin’

California will do just fine on its own if it comes to that. And we have plenty of water, and the aqueducts to move it around. There might be a bit of fuss over our share of the Colorado River, but we don’t import any water from out of state as it is.

Not that I think Calexit is an actual good idea. Balkanization of North America would leave Russia and China as the major world powers. I can’t see that as a good thing.

I agree, this is fun to think about as some fantasy idea, but California leaving the US would drastically weaken the nation as a whole, even if California thrived. They are better with us there, and we get some benefits too. The road trip to vegas reminds us all how ugly joshua trees are and helps us appreciate the trees we have in the cities.

Putin and Assange wanted Trump to win because he thinks Trump would be less hostile to russian actions, and Assange thinks Trump will shrink Americas role in the world, which to a US hating anarchist is a good thing.

I still think of the US as a benign Hegemon, that will miss us when and if we are ever gone.

Still a great read, it’s like the bible of neocons, even former quasi neocons like myself.

You misunderstand. We stay 50 states together, and we stay strong.

Trump can be like Obama. Since the river runs between states, just like the XL pipeline, it’s under federal jurisdiction. He’ll come up with phony environmental reason and dam it up. You know, to save a fish that doesn’t exist or something. :p:p:p

Oregon is on coming on board with their own Secession Act

http://oregonvotes.org/irr/2018/009text.pdf

Any idea what they mean by “The Constitution should require nonpartisan elections and forbid privileged ballot or electoral access based on affiliation with a private organization or political party.”?

Are they complaining about Democrats’ super delegates? Are the Bernie Bros pushing this (ETA: I only ask because I notice the word “equality” sprinkled throughout the document)?

Also, Oregon, it’s a long ways to go, and it’ll be hard to see this through to the end, but know that this Utahn is rooting for you.

I’d guess it’s a reference to the open primaries they have in Oregon (and California now) in all races except presidential ones. The top two vote-getters in the primary election face each other in the general election, without respect to party.

You smug PNW assholes had better stay in the US because we need your electoral votes.

Nobody is seceding. Nobody is moving to Canada. MOVE TO TEXAS. It’s nicer than it seems, and much more affordable.

That’s actually a much more realistic plan to effect change. If a million Californian Democrats moved to Texas, not only would California easily remain Democratic, but Democrats would have a healthy margin in Texas as well. Call it reverse gerrymandering.

We can just take California and hang all secessionists.

I actually like the idea of letting western Oregon go, but it sounds like eastern Oregon might want to stay: http://katu.com/amnw/lawmaker-to-pitch-idea-to-join-eastern-parts-of-oregon-washington-with-idaho

The reality is that if California really wanted to, it could probably just leave the United States. It would be an unconstitutional, illegal act. But what could Washington actually do about it? Post another announcement on the White House webpage saying it doesn’t approve? No president would send in the military, would he?
