I would bring my family-famous version of Chex mix, but I haven’t seen the freakin’ recipe since I moved. Sooooo…I dunno. May make lno drop me off at a grocery store/deli and pick something up on the way over.
I won’t be able to make it. Like a fool I went and got elected prez of the local mtn biking chapter here and now I have to do some work on sat. I’m beginning to regret it already. D’oh!
Without JarbabyJ there to harrass me and my ‘Brett’ jersey (especially after this past sunday) it just woudn’t be the same.
Sorry foks, but I’m out.
The Dinsdale clan will be spread across 3 states at various times throughout that day. Making it downtown that eve would surely bust a valve somewhere.
Have fun, and feel free to designate me this party’s official pooper.
I will be packing on Saturday morning/afternoon, and moving on Sunday. Anyone want to pitch in? I know moving sucks, but the more people involved the less it sucks and the more it’s just a big party with some minor lifting. I will be moving to Nym’s soon-to-be-spare room, so some of you may get swept up in the event whether you want to or not. I will make every attempt to pack things up over the next few days, but I know I’m only going to get so much done in this short time by myself. I have a very few non-doper friends in the area who might be able to help on Sunday. If I don’t get any positive replies from you guys, I’ll have to call on the people I work with, which I’d rather not.
I’d pay for the entire friday night thing to bribe you except I spent about $1500 on my vacation to Bmore/Washington last week (instead of the $500 I had budgeted). I could spring for some eggs and bacon and potatoes and sponsor a sunday brunch at either my place or Nym’s maybe. I’d be happy to cook for all. Anyone? Please? Boli, who hates moving more than anything in the world, has committed to helping pack my dishes on Saturday but will be leaving on Sunday. Thanks Boli! I expect others are also leaving on Sunday. I’d do the whole move on Saturday except I don’t want to interfere with the quiet festivity. Also, if Nym’s place is overcrowded, anyone who wants can stay at my place. On Saturday, I may try to move a few things down that will make those at Nym’s feel more comfortable. A futon, for instance. More pillows, sheets, and blankets too.
My friends back in Baltimore all tell me I can only ask GOOD friends to help me move or else I have to hire a moving company. Maybe I ought to put that question to great debates, but I think many of you ARE very good friends. So, I can at least ask.
I opened this to read Nym’s comment and bump and turned it into a dissertation, as usual.
Well, I had claimed a spot on Nym’s floor, but is space pevents that, I may take you up on your offer, Vile. And I think we’re leaving Sunday, but I can help out a little, I should think.
Alas, I am now a “NO.” I decided instead to take advantage of the airline’s desperation and low fares, and I have booked passage home to Nebraska. Four blissful days of dissertation time, with no distractions whatsoever save my easy-to-get-along-with parents. I will miss Cranky Jr, but I have to get this stuff DONE.
Since no one else has jumped in, I’ll say (speaking on behalf of the ChiDopers)…
As long as said spouse does not consume all of said meatballs before we all get a crack at them, bring said spouse to said festivities.
Nym - On behalf of ChiDopers near and far, drunk and sober, hungry and merely sociable
As no sane person wants to eat my cooking, and as I would never ask Wife to cook for something of mine and pointed out to her that I usually put off telling her about such things because I DON’T want her going to special trouble, I was thinking of picking up a cheesecake or something like that. Anybody have favorite flavors? I’ve always been a purist (plain cheesecake, no topping), but I’m willing to make concessions.
Another cheesecake purist here. Although I have never in my life said no to a raspberry. Did someone say Mags is coffee-impaired? Because you gotta have coffee for cheesecake… should I bring my coffeemaker?
I’d be interested in seeing Truly Human with you on Tuesday. Do you have plans to get tickets for it?
I saw Kwik Stop last night, the director and star answered questions after, it was great. I’m seeing Reel Madness on Sunday with Scott. I’ve been too sick for more films. But I’ll see you Tuesday!
I’m a freak - I started composing an email to my friend David about the film festival and responding to this thread at the same time. Pay me no attention!
I am so psyched for Saturday. Bring husband. Bring meatballs. Bring coffeemaker & coffee (I’ll get the milk and sugar) - there is no coffee in my house.
For months now, I’ve been trying to organize coworkers into a game of paintball - and it’s finally happened! Paid for by the company, no less! But it’s taking place this Saturday from 11 to 3, and if I want to attend I have to respond in the next four and a half hours.
On the good side, this is in rural Wisconsin, so it’s on the way to Chicago, so I could play and then drive down dripping paint and arrive around 8ish.
On the bad side, I’m potentially going to drive chique and Silver Fire and would need to find a way to get in touch with them in the next few hours to see if they’d be okay with a late arrival and/or with watching me get my ass kicked by coworkers.
Damnit, damnit, damnit. Sigh. I’ll probably end up skipping the paintball, but it would be SO theraputic to shoot that vice president of product development. (With a paintball gun!)
I’ve got a pretty big apartment, dropzone. Seating for 8 at the dinner table, several couches, chairs for the smokers on the porch - it will be cozy and fine.
Your offer of a cheesecake is much appreciated!
LNO, do what your heart tells you about the paintball. If you play, shoot the human resources manager and the person who most enjoys getting his ass kissed twice for me.
I apparently no longer have to decide by 4 pm today. Therefore, tonight I’m going to see what my potential passengers are up to, and I may well have the chance to shoot the people from HR and executive staff over and over and over and over, and then come to the dope with stories galore.
