New York Dopefest

So Sue Sue Duhnym and magdalene are coming to town, and I’d just feel horrible if we didn’t give them a proper New York welcome.

I propose Thursday, July 5 – lots of people should be out of town; we should be able to schedule something.

So: Who’s up for it? Dinner and bar, or just a bar, or something else?

Thoughts?

:grumble:

Drats.

:going over to kick dirt with jarbaby:

Leave some dirt for me. :frowning:

You can come play in the dirt with us, Euty.

We’ll be more fun getting dirty anyhow.

I would love grub and drinking

Should we do something Brooklyn-ward this time around? or in the Village?

Sorry folks, I won’t be there. My husband spent this morning trying to resign from his job. [sub]I say “trying” because he needs a written release because he wants to go back to the firm that this firm was part of before it was bought by foreigners.[/sub]

Consequently, in the ensuing chaos, we will be in hiding and letting everyone sweat it out. [sub]We’re going to Cancun! [/sub]

I hope you have fun and I’m sorry I’m missing the party and the chance to meet a great group of Dopers![sub]There is still a chance we’ll be moving there, however slight. Two people are meeting with my husband on Thursday to try a save. [/sub]

If some kind soul would e-mail me their address, I’ll send a check to you so I can buy a round in absentia.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, Sue. Things are tough all over in the employment world, getting in or getting out.

One vote for a primarily drink-oriented establishment here. But food should be available. I don’t know why, but a sit-down dinner just doesn’t seem right to me.

Well I’ll be kicking sand instead of dirt since I’ll be one of those heading out to the beach. Hope the next one is better timed.

And best of luck with everything, Sue. <hug>

Aw, rats. Sue, I’ll light a candle for ya in hopes you’ll be able to make it after all.

But in any case, my miniskirt and I will still be there. Wouldn’t want to disappoint manny, after all.

How sad to hear that Sue will not be joining us! I hope everything works out to your husband’s liking.

It will still be a treat to welcome magdalene to our fair city. I am up for either Manhattan (the island, and besides, the moderator seems to be spoken for anyway  ain’t that always the way?) or Brooklyn, since for me it’s a matter of where I work or where I live. I recall that magdalene is staying in Brooklyn, and that Sua had some good Brooklyn suggestions during the last Dopefest discusion, although we eventually wound up on the Upper West Side.

I am also fond of both food and drink, and will take them in pretty much whatever combination they are offered. As long as there is plenty of drink.

Maybe this should stay a dead issue, but I think the Thursday date had originally been planned way back when it first seemed Sue would be in town. Is Friday now a better date? I think I have Friday off from work anyway, but some people might be more flexible if it wasn’t a work/school night. Feel free to throw rocks at me if I am making the planning of the Dopefest more complicated than it needs to be.

I like eating AND drinking. Plus, I live in New York. I just can’t go wrong today.

After previewing I’d like to add:
Don’t anybody throw rock at delphica!

I advocate sticking with the original Thursday date, as I can’t come if it’s on Friday.

Sue, I hope everything works out for your husband.

I’m open to whatever y’all want to do and wherever y’all want to do it. It sounds like “a bar that also serves food” is a popular suggestion so far. And July 5 works for me.

Whoohoo, I can’t wait!

I think I could make it to this Dopefest…as long as the establishment in question is either a) primarily drinking or b) if it’s primarily an eating establishment, certified Kosher.

Arden, Euty? You guys got any spare dirt that needs kickin’? Damn!

You can come get dirty with us, Unc.

To heck with 'em.

:mutter:

cm, do you know of a place that combines the two, i.e., a Kosher establishment where we can get a little loud? All the Kosher places I know of (admittedly not an all-encompassing list) are more on the “family restaurant” side.

Sua

" . . . do you know of a place that combines the two, i.e., a Kosher establishment where we can get a little loud?"

—You might want to try Rabbi Filthy McSchlomo’s Dance Hall, down on the Bowery.

I’ll make every effort to be there, but no promises.

Wow! Is McSchlomo’s place still open?

{sniffle}

I had my brit milah there…
