Attention all New York area Dopers (and various visitors and hangers-on)!
On Friday, April 16, the NY Dopers will get together for dinner. At the last mega-fest, several people expressed interest in a Friday night gathering, so we hope to have a lot of folks attend. Newbies and lurkers are also welcome (WE ARE NOT SCARY) so please don’t hesitate to join us! You will know who we are because we will be the people who are loud, having fun, and tipping the server generously.
We were thinking of going to Babbo, but due to recent vital expenditures, a more fiscally prudent venue was desired. Here’s all the info:
Date: Friday, April 16
Time: 6:30 PM
Place: Sammy’s Noodle Shop, 6th Avenue at 10th Street
After dinner, there is a remote chance that we will then visit a local establishment of the alcohol-serving type (see Pope, Catholic, bear, woods). Suggestions for said establishment are welcome, in walking distance would be preferable. We’ll reach some sort of consensus in time to post a definite location in this thread, in the event anyone can’t make dinner but would like to join us for drinks.
Please post to this thread if you are able to attend, I’ll plan to make reservations a day or two before the 16th.
Oh, I dunno. That’s out of the two-block radius that I normally allow myself for Dopefest activities by almost a whole block!
Well, OK, you talked me into it. Assuming it’s not too crowded, I’d nominate Kettle of Fish for any proposed post-dinner activities. They did us a real solid, as many know, and any excuse to throw them some business is a good one, IMO.
I’m a definite maybe. Since Mrs. Dave-Guy is out of town until Monday, I’ll have to wait till then to run it by her, but I don’t see any potential problems with my attending.
I’ll post here regarding my yea or nay ASAP.
And I second Manny’s suggestion about Kettle of Fish. That place is 100% okay in my book, and we Dopers should do what we can to give them the business.
I mean, to patronize them.
I mean…
Oh, hell, we should go there and drink their beer.
I reckon I’ll be there - I can come after I spend the day with my darlings. Hell, maybe I’ll bring all 100 + kids with me!
Or not. But I can commit to being there unless something happens to change that.
We are getting the beginnings of an all-star line up here!
Great call on Kettle of Fish. Good looking AND smart, that’s Manhattan for ya. It’s at 59 Christopher Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues, closer to 7th.
If you wanted to postpone this event for two weeks, you could have a West Coast visitor–that would be a coup, wouldn’t it? Yes, I am willing to fly cross country to meet with this distinquish collection of people (and attend a legal conference on the side). In other words, I’ll be in New York from April 26 through May 2, and even if you don’t move the whole Dopefest, I’d be thrilled to meet any of you that wouldn’t mind hanging around with a hopelessly provencial out-of-towner (or are “provincial” and “out-of-towner” redundant?).
I’m on my own Tuesday morning, Wednesday night, and all day Friday and Saturday, and a bit of Sunday morning. I figure I’ll overdose on museums during the day, but one of my secret wishes is to sip martinis deep into the night while listening to a caberet show (well, I said I was hopelessly provencial, at least I’m not asking for someone to go see The Lion King). Any other ideas (possibly conbined with companionship)?
I can’t make it, sadly, as my socializing days are pretty much over (except for the Gen’l. Slocum cruise in June, which I will find the time and money for, somehow).
