New York Dopefest

RE-CREATION TIME! (I’ll book the mohel; Sua, you bring the Vienna sausages and Swedish meatballs.)

I…am kicking dirt. But as I feel it is not my place to exact revenge on a man like manhattan,

I shall have to take my anger out on Geobabe…

By going to see Brady Anderson play the White Sox this Friday, and sitting in the front row behind home plate.

Nyah.

Nyah.

jarbaby

When and where?

Drinking and/or eating?

Thursday or Friday?

I can’t find a phone number for this “Filthy” place, so I guess it’s not around anymore.

Just how “loud” were you hoping to get? I know a few Kosher restaurants that do serve alcoholic drinks, but the atmosphere is still pretty family-friendly as far as I can tell.

Chaim Mattis Keller

Well cm, if I stay home that lowers the decible level considerably.
It has been my experience that Dopers can get very loud and family scary. Just ask my husband, who will not allow our children to be anywhere near a Dopefest.

Biggirl—That’s why your husband won’t allow ME to be anywhere near a Dopefest, either.

CM—“Rabbi Filthy McShlomo” was a joke. Though one that was not made in vain, if I had you actually looking it up in a phone book . . .

Eve:

Aargh, I been had!..although I must say, it helped your little hoax that Uke played along with it. :o

BTW, I can also report that I didn’t find the word “gullible” in that phone book either.

Well, there’s definitely a kosher sports bar/restaurant uptown (but I don’t know just how loud we can get). And, I’m amenable to a bar that isn’t primarily a non-Kosher restaurant. But of course, I have no intention of holding back the lot of you if you want to do something else…there’ll be other Dopefests for me, no doubt.

Chaim Mattis Keller

::kickin’ dirt is too fun::

Remember, please, mags, my grope list.

I expect reports :D, and give a big liberal style hug to Biggirl for me, too.

If y’all have it on Friday, I’m there. I have Friday AND Saturday off! But Thursday is out of the question, unless I left work and hopped directly on 95N. I would get to NYC by 9, which is probably too late anyway, parking would be a bitch, and I’d probably suffer a coronary driving in Manhattan.

Sadly, no buses leave at a convenient time, unless I can show up at 11pm.

I’ve exhausted all my options. The next fest, maybe with a little more advance, is guaranteed, though, since I miss Biggirl and Billdo.

Have fun everybody!

jarbabyj, I am going to have to tell you the unbelievable, but true!, story about how I met Brady at a bar (the Bay Cafe) and he bought me a drink. See, his first gay lover was Dave, the owner of the place, who was having a fling with a close friend of mine. Dave used to let us eat and drink on the house all last summer, and we ran into Brady several times. Nice guy, and I’m pretty sure he’s bisexual, not gay. I mean, he bought me a drink (Captain Morgan’s and Coke) and flirted with me.

His ass really is that incredible, in case you were wondering.

I’m really, truly not making any of this up.

All of the kosher places that I know of are more family-oriented, although it would be cool beyond belief if this were in a kosher place ;j.
If we’re going to a bar, though, count me out - I’m probablly the last underage college student in New York without a fake ID, but there you have it.
Oh, yeah, Friday evening is out for me (and, I’m sure, Chaim) for pretty obvious reasons.
Chaim - speakest thou of Mendy’s?

Because I’m travelling to Dallas for work, I won’t be able to make this New York dopefest. Drat! Drat! Drat! And I’ll miss the Kosher-Dopers, too.

Well, hoist one for me, and maybe we can have one of our semi-usual Thursday night dinners at a kosher joint so we can get cmk, Gila, and the rest.

Well, fuck you all each in your own special way for daring to arrange a NYC Dopefest when I’m on the Cape. <sob>

I’ll just have to have my OWN LITTLE Dopefest on Cape Cod. With kosher food. That means that L’il Toons will have to lay off the lobster claws and claham chowdah for a day.

I’ll have the Slaptop computer with me, I pray many fine posts allow us all to share by proxy.

With a lot of luck, I’ll be falling asleep in St. Louis Friday night, shooting there on Saturday and begging Anthracite and her dear love to at least meet me at a 7-11 for a Slurpee and some laughs.

Have a blast. Be gentle with the delicately petalled flower that IS Magdalene.

Cartooniverse

Sorry I got to this thread late, but I’d be up for a dopefest too. I, however, would have the same concerns as Chaim and Gila (kosher, couldn’t be on a Friday night).

Zev Steinhardt

I can make it if it’s friday or saturday, Kosher is not an issue for me either way. Actually, a Kosher place would probably expose me to some food I’m not entirely familiar with, and that’s never bad.

GilaB:

I do indeed.

And, as GilaB and zev_steinhardt mentioned, I couldn’t make it on a Friday night. Only reason I even posted was because you were primarily talking about Thursday night.

Chaim Mattis Keller

So, Thursday it is. Shall we say Mendy’s? If so where is it? If not, where else?

If we go to Mendy’s and it’s a nice family place, maybe I’ll leave the spouse and bring the kids.

“delicately petaled flower.”

Haw.

We usually (or at least, often) have dinner and then go to a bar, c’est vrai?

Is Second Avenue Deli kosher? I’m afraid I don’t know if it is really kosher, or “sort of kosher-seeming for the benefit of the tourists”. It’s in the East Village, they are used to loud people. We might eat there (if it is in fact kosher), and then retire to a bar, and proceed to get even louder.

Second Avenue Deli is not considered reliably Kosher by the large majority of Orthodox Jews (myself included).
