Oh, I tried to bend it or roll it as much as I could when taking it out. Didn’t help much. My hoohah still got sore. Maybe one of these days I’ll try it again.
I wonder if you guys have the right size cup? I can spin mine (I check to make sure it’s in there properly) and after that unfortunate first time I can take it out without any pain.
It hasn’t been a month since the last post, so this doesn’t count as a zombie thread, right? I just wanted to chime in and say that I FINALLY got this a few days ago - I just started my period for the first time in months, so I figured, carpe diem - and I love it. Where has this been all my life? No leaks, no discomfort. It does tend to work its way up a bit further than it probably should, so taking it out can be … somewhat involved … but other than that it works like a charm. I can sleep naked while I’m having my period. Who would have thought it’d be possible? Best Christmas present to myself, ever.
I tried spinning the thing the first few times, but it works fine without that step.
Well, since Haze resurrected this thread, I’ve got a question. Are any of you **plus-size ** women that are using this? And if so, does it work well for you, too?
I’m a size 14ish, and I’m very happy with it. No leaking, no discomfort (I can’t even feel the thing), and I had it down my very first time. I also can do the spinning thing.
Awww, thanks, I’d love to be a 14. But I’m more like a 30.
I am a 3x [which is what, 26/28?] and it worked beautifully for me until I chemically turned the plague off =)
Then, uh, maybe it’ll work twice as well for you.
I’m also using the DivaCup for the first time due to this thread. I never know exactly when I’ll start, so I actually had it in for a few days prior and got plenty of practice with the insertion and removal.
I’m a plus-size woman… about 22/24. I’m also a virgin, though, so I don’t know if that’s helpful to your question.
I just started today, and so far no leaks. It does feel weird to notice the sensation of bleeding and not run straight to a bathroom to take care of the impending emergency, but I knew to expect that feeling from this discussion. The cup tends to drift down, especially when I sit for a long time, so I have ended up having to nudge it up a few times.
Why would being plus size make any difference? With weight gain, the shape and size of your hoohaw doesn’t change, only your exterior silhouette, right? I could only see it being a problem if one was so extremely plus-sized their mobility (and dexterity) was restricted.
Well, I don’t know. That’s why I was asking. There’s alot of skin and flab hanging around and I didn’t know if it would make a difference.
I’m a 22/24 and I have no problems with the Diva Cup related to my size. It’s not entirely problem-free, though; I have to be careful about positioning it or it makes me feel like I constantly have to pee. Other than that, it’s terrific.
It’s also freaking fascinating.
I’ve got the one for women who’ve given birth–I doubt very much it’s too big, my first baby was nine pounds. I can take it out without pain as long as I bend it enough. It’s the spinning it around that I just don’t get.
It sounds like most of you went from tampons to the DivaCup. I’ve always used pads because my period is light and I didn’t want to dessicate myself any further. Did any of you switch it from pads, or were you all regular tampon users before? I worried that it will feel too weird or be impossible to insert.
I can’t feel it at all once it’s in there. As for the inserting part, I think it depends on whether you’ve, um, inserted other things in there before. I’m pretty tight - so to speak - but the DivaCup folded and squished is definitely not bigger than the average penis (IME). It is bigger than a tampon, though.
I went from pads to the DivaCup. I’d done tampons every now and then, but not very often.
It does seem weird inserting it at first. But once it’s in, if it’s in right, you really don’t feel it at all.
Another very happy Diva Cup user, here. I’d actually used Instead (not the exact same concept) for years and was pretty happy with it – my flow has always been heavy and I used to use a fortune in tampons. Also, tampons always seemed to push their way out of my body. With Instead, miraculously, I could forget I was on my period. Amazing. However, sometimes it did leak, and I wanted to save the environment and save myself a lot of money, so I ordered one because of this thread too. I can’t do the spinning thing, either. It seems like it’s wedged up there too far and too tight to spin. But I think I finally have insertion down. Removal was never a problem. There was a stage there where insertion was NOT working – no matter what I did, it seemed like I was leaking. I had to jump up and go to the bathroom every 5 minutes or so – and that was really frustrating. Now it works, but I don’t know what I’m doing differently! Oh well – now that it works, I’m liberated. I really do forget, for hours, that I have my period, and no leaks, no pain, no nothing. Yay!
I’m going to revive this one more time, because I have a question.
I actually went and bought one today - I’ve been tempted to try them, but had been putting it off, and today found this thread and re-read it, and decided I’d head to the place in town that sells them and get one.
I got there, and all they have is the size 1 - which says it’s for women under 30 who’ve never given birth. I didn’t think much further than that. When I got home and was looking at the website, I noticed that it says size 2 is for “women who have had vaginal childbirth or c-sections; and for women who are over 30 years old and never had childbirth.”
The reason they give for this is that:
So, I’m over 30 (34 even), but along with the not having given birth…I’m also not sexually active (I have been in the past, but it’s been quite some time - measured in years, not months, ok. Don’t make me admit just how many years, though).
So, before I open the box, do I return it and look for a size 2 or is this one worth a try? I know y’all probably can’t give me a definitive yes/no answer, but opinions can be helpful.
I’m so glad this thread was revived! I’ve never heard of DivaCup before and after a little deliberation, I just decided to buy one, and I also forwarded the thread to my sister. Finally, people put their heads together and figured out a proper way to deal with having a period!
Since I started the thread, I thought I’d report on my second month of use. STILL love it. Honestly, I totally forgot I had my period for about three days (I had cramps the first two). I did have the tiniest bit of leaking when I first started, but I’m attributing that to inserting it at 4 AM when I woke up with cramps and realized AF was on the way. Once I reinserted while fully awake, I had no more leaking issues.
My husband still thinks it’s weird, but he appreciates that he will not ever have to buy me tampons again :D. My mother DEFINITELY thinks it’s weird, but she also thinks the fact that I cloth diaper my son and wear him on my back is weird. I’m used to being considered a hippie by her, so it’s not a big deal.
This last time, when AF was finished, I actually washed it first in the sink with baby wash, and to the chagrin of my husband, ran it through the dishwasher. Came out as good as new - no discoloration or anything.
