So does this Mallard Fillmore have his head completely lodged up his ass or what?

I find This Modern World too close to real life for me to call it “humor.” Primus knows I could’ve had this conversation a dozen times over.

You haven’t seen horrifyingly crap conservative cartooning until you’ve seen Leftersons.

So…was Billy roaming around being shadowed by Not Me?

lissner, are you going to provide some cites for your claims about O’Rourke?

P.J. O’Rourke’s writing is almost always brilliant and hilarious. His one weakness seems to be a need to tie every ill in the world to ‘liberalism’. It sometimes seems like a shamed reaction to his past as a leftist.

A famous example was an article he wrote for Rolling Stone in 1992 entitled “I Feel Stupid and Contagious” on the Buchanan campaign, in which he basically concluded that the Buchananites were the ‘true’ liberals.

Check out today’s Boondocks where Huey calls John Kerry, and ribs him about the polls by addressing him as Al Gore. Painful but funny, while Tinsley just makes up stuff that isn’t even close to being on target.

He’s a no-talent dope, and his politics have nothing to do with it. PJ used to be funny also, but his last collection was way lame.

Hey, you seemed to have forgotten to respond in this thread. You’ve been putting your foot in your mouth fairly regularly since, so I am sure it was just an oversight.

Anyone notice that his latest strips are, actually, LIBERAL? Of course, he’s too obsessed with his hatred of liberals to notice.

The gist of his recents comics are, “Gee, why isn’t the liberal media reporting that even after Bush’s tax cuts the rich are paying MORE, and two million poor people have stopped paying taxes”

Well gee, dumbass, why ISN’T the liberal media reporting the rich being taxed on steadily increasing incomes, and two million people dropping below minimum taxable income?

He sees any statistics as furthering his point of view, even when they don’t. I can’t even imagine what’s going through his head when he writes those strips.

God I miss Calvin and Hobbes.

The sign in the background of the RNC strip reading “Dykes Against (And For) Bush” made me smile, but other than that, bleh.

God DAMN that’s a lame-ass comic strip!

Mallard was at least funny when talking about colleges.

Leftersons isn’t funny at all.

That leaves Jack Chick as the only real funny right-wing strip. Until George Will gets around to write Weeping While Explaining the Infield Fly Rule.

I recall once seeing a truly funny right-wing comic strip. It was actually incisive and clever.

But it must have been a dream, because I’ve never seen it since. Its art was kind of reminiscent of Breathed, IIRC.

Ok, that’s worse.

The problem with Mallard Fillmore is that Bill Clinton left office. He was such an incredible embarrassment (to anyone on the political spectrum, and I remind you all that he was one of the most moderate, centrist presidents in history) that making fun of the Democrats was actually kinda fun then. It helped that the Democrats had either a majority or close to it in Congress.

Now George W. Bush, a completely incompetent right-wing moron, has had an unbelievable number of horrible decisions go completely unchallenged (including tax cuts for the rich and the appointment of a right-wing fanatic to Attorney General), we’re mired in a horrific war that had nothing to do with fighting terrorism, neocons have a stranglehold on every branch of government…and the media has been a bunch of friggin’ sheep in reporting this.

In short, the right wing has unimaginable power and has done unspeakably evil things…and Tinsley, for whatever reason, still supports the right wing in everything it does.

Y’know, given that he paints himself as a conservative, you’d think that he might want to go after the various aspects of Bush policy that are as far from conservative as you could imagine…say, spending like mad without the cash to cover it.

See, THAT’S the difference between Trudeau and Tinsley. Trudeau can adapt his message to changing times. Tinsley knows only one note, and he keeps playing it even when it makes absolutely no sense. That’s what makes Mallard Fillmore suck.
