So glad I got out of that job..

I am sorry up front if I have posted this in the wrong forum. But I was cleaning out files from last year when I found an old memo from a job I quit last year. I worked as a server at this restaurant for 3 years before I finally came to my senses. Anyway the memo was posted on the back board. The part I am going to quote is under punctuality and didn’t pertain to servers(they had other ways to deal with them). Just curious on what your thoughts are.

Punctuality: Most of our kitchen crew is having trouble arriving to work on time. So we have decided to start charging every kitchen team-member 1 cent off thier wage per minute for every minute they are late. Therefore if Howard makes $6.00 an hour, and he is 10 minutes late for a shift, then he will only make $5.90 an hour for that week. We will adjust the hours you work rather than change your pay rate. Our goal is to have everyone on time so we don’t have to make any adjustments in hours. To be entirely fair, we will five each chef a “get out of being late free” card that they can use whenever they wish. We will start each week fresh, but will not give any more free cards except at manager’s discretion for stepping out of the box. This will start on 3/14/02.

I never had a problem with being late. Just because that is who I am. I hate to be late, especially for work. I would think that legally they couldn’t mess with the hours by adjusting someones time though. I don’t know? I can say I am so glad I got rid of that job. Now I work for a restaurant that treats you like an adult and not a child.
