So, how do I go about being a guinea pig?

I want to volunteer for psych experiments (no, I said psych not “psychic”!) I have a pretty freaky memory (and I’m one of those uncommon weirdos who remembers stuff from infancy).

University psychology departments usually have volunteer sign-up sheets, but last time I did one of those, it was pretty weanie (I had to try to complete IQ tests while wearing headphones to see how different background noise affected concentration.)

So how do I go about being a guinea pig for a memory or dream study?

So far searches have yeilded only info about running experiments, results of experiments, or academic requirements.

I wanna be a guinea pig!

Grow lots of fur, live in a cage, chew on everything you can get your paws on, and squeak for food.

oh…you didn’t mean that kind of guinea pig?

So you wanna be a human guinea pig?

This is more for medical than psych stuff, but it might get you started.

Well, I’ve participated in quite a few psychology experiments for two classes I took in college. All I can say is that sometimes you get the interesting stuff, and sometimes you don’t. The descriptions are often deliberately vague - they don’t want to bias the sample, unless it’s something a considerable number of people would back out of if they weren’t told until the last minute (quite a few of the sex related ones fall into this category). Sometimes you find the boring test type ones, other times you get the sorts of unusual ones like getting to wear an electroencaphalogram net on your head while doing various tasks. I must say, though, that the EEG net is rather annoying because it’s soaked in salt water and they had to periodically rewater it.
