and that * fact * will be proven time and again. The first time will occur by or before his inaugural.
It will plague him for the next 4 years, and it will plague the Republicans, too. Hehehehhehe…

I was very much a Gore supporter, and I do truly feel he got shafted in Florida, but wtf were these people doing by voting Gore AND writing him in? These votes deserve to be thrown out.
I think we’ve established that being a little slow on the uptake is no reason to have your vote tossed.

While the non-Bush-supporting but also non-kneejerk reactionaries among us will cynically note that “Hey, Bush won after all” won’t sell nearly as many newspapers, and that the “fact” will depend on the political leanings of whoever’s talking at the moment.
I’m sure someone will come up with a recount showing Gore “won”. The difference is this recount will be done by someone with a strong bias and no formal authority.
The bottom line is the first count came up Bush and the second (which was heavily weighted by Gore by only counting Dem counties) also came up Bush.
Un-official recounts are irrelevant and silly at this point. But I’m sure we’ll see one and I’m already sure of the results. Hell, why bother counting; Rev. Jesse can already tell you the answer.
BTW, even you libs may get a kick out of George Will’s latest column talking about how the party’s over for Bush…

I was wondering just how long it it is going to take before it becomes clear to you guys that Gore lost.
I thought the Forida certification might do it.
Then I thought when he conceded that that MIGHT do the trick.
Then I thought when the actual voting took place for the electoral college, we would know for sure. Even though only a Gore voter changed their vote, and Bush got 271, that still did not do it.
I am wondering if when the Senate opens the Electoral College ballots and the count is certified, if maybe that will make it clear.
But I don’t think so…
The optimist in me wants to think you guys might be bright enough to figure it out by inauguration. Sometimes I think I’m too hopefull though.
I guess there is a chance that sometime in the next 4 years you might trip, bump your head and have some sense knocked into you… but once again, I’m an optimist.
You can count until the cows come come home, but the fact is Bush won and Gore lost. It might get pretty amusing two or three years from now when you are still insisting that Bush is not the president.
Impeachment hurt the Republicans, I have a feeling you guys are going to take your turn with this recount business.
Oh good, check one county that probably favors gore than suddenly claim Gore won florida(when that wouldent have won it for Gore either)
The newspaper people are just trying to stir things up, and they will find votes untill they declare Gore the winner. Even if they have to count half the counties and ignore the other half.
You guys don’t even know who’s going to do the counting, or when, or most importantly, how, but you’re sure they’re biased and you’re already trying to discredit it?
The consortium working on the recount includes the Wall Street Journal, Washington Times, and one of Larry Klayman’s groups. I have zero doubt that they’ll tell us about anything that could possible construed as being biased in Gore’s favor.
Don’t pay attention to George Will, btw - he has nothing kind to say about anyone except old ballplayers, and he must be taking the refutation of his primary-season prediction that Bush would be humiliated pretty hard.
Well put.
You kids really need to take another look at that article before you start denouncing it…
Look at that again. These ain’t no dimpled chads or pregnant chads, or even partially punched chads. These are votes where the voter CLEARLY cast a vote for one candidate or another. And over 40% of such votes were for Bush, which doesn’t lend much credence to sniggering theories about incompetent Democratic voters. And from the original article, the Sentinel included only the most clear-cut ballots in the tally:
It’s sad that the best response this board’s conservatives can come up with is to basically accuse a metropolitan newspaper of mere shit-disturbing, and suggest that a tabulation of ballots by the nation’s largest media outlets is somehow inherently biased before it’s even begun. I really expected a rebuttal that actually had some meat to it…
ugh…where’s an extra close-bold tag when i need it? my apologies.
VERY rewarding! Thanks for the link!

You mean something more along the lines of:
“The votes have been counted, and recounted, and recounted and counted again and counted and counted and counted and counted and counted and counted and counted. It’s a sad day for our Democracy when we want to count the votes and count the votes and count the votes and count the votes and count the votes.”
Oh sorry…James Baker had a skip in his spiel in my head…

In the accidentally-vote-for-Buchanan-butterfly-ballot situation, that at least makes some sense.
But what the hell is the person thinking here? They voted for Gore, then tried to add another right-in vote for him. Looks more like cheating, than being slow.
[aside] Like certain counted overseas military ballots that were mailed from within the U.S., or faxed in, or mailed after election day… [/aside]
Actually what it looks like more than anything to me is a checkbook- do the symbol, then “write in” the amount. The ballot didn’t say “other” or some such, it just said “write in.” It’s not that much of a stretch to think that some people thought they were confirming their vote by doing so. JDM

You know, it amazed me that this possibility was never even entertained. Everyone was so hysterical about making sure the military didn’t get slighted, that the possibility that among them might be truly illegal votes wasn’t even floated. No postmark? They’re military! They wrote in a date! Keep 'em all!
So…what are you referring to above? Anything you’ve actually read, or just speculation, or just speculation you’ve read?
I’m very interested.

I guess everyone agrees with me that this major media outlet is just trying to get attention because of the fact that its only one county. You know the recounts showed Gore up more votes? It did that because they only counted the democratic majority areas.
Votes that are incorrectly filled out because a small minority is too impatient to read the directions do not deserve to be counted on the Bush or Gore side. They should all go to Harry Browne:)
**ripped this off a humor site, something like Yahoo Daily Forward. HOOT WARNING!!
BREAKING NEWS:
GOD OVERRULES SUPREME COURT VERDICT;
Bush to be smitten later today
In a stunning development this morning, God invoked the “one nation, under God” clause of the Pledge of Allegiance to overrule last night’s Supreme Court decision that handed the White House to George W.Bush.
“I’m not sure where the Supreme Court gets off,” God said this morning on a rare Today Show appearance, “but I’m sure as hell not going to lie back and let Bush get away with this bullshit! I’ve watched analysts argue for weeks now that the exact vote count in Florida ‘will never be known.’ Well, I’m God and I do know exactly who voted for whom.
Let’s cut to the chase: Gore won Florida by exactly 20,219
votes.”
Shocking political analysts and pundits, God’s unexpected verdict overrules the official Electoral College tally and awards Florida to Al Gore, giving him a 289-246 victory. The Bush campaign is analyzing God’s Word for possible grounds for appeal.
“God’s ruling is a classic overreach,” argued Bush campaign strategist Jim Baker. “Clearly, a divine intervention in a US Presidential Election is unprecedented, unjust, and goes against the Constitution of the state of Florida.”
“Jim Baker’s a jackass,” God responded. “He’s got some surprises ahead of him, let me tell you. HOT ones, if you know what I mean.”
God, who provided the exact vote counts for every Florida precinct, explained that bad balloting machinery and voter confusion were no grounds to give the White House to “a friggin’ idiot.”
"Look, only 612 people in Palm Beach County voted for Buchanan. Get real! The rest meant to vote for Gore. Don’t believe me? I’ll name them: Anderson, Pete; Anderson, Sam, Jr.; Arthur, James; Barnhardt,
Ron… "
Our Lord then went on to note that he was displeased with George W.Bush’s prideful ways and announced that he would officially smite him today. In an act of wrath unlike any reported since the Book of Job, God has taken all of Bush’s goats and livestock, stripped him of his wealth and possessions, sold his family into slavery, forced the
former presidential candidate into hard labor in a salt mine, and afflicted him with deep boils.
Dick Cheney will reportedly receive leprosy.
So George Will thinks that fighting for the separation of church and state (opposing tax-funded school vouchers) and abortion rights represents “reactionary liberalism”? I guess according to that view, any freedom once attained must be discarded, or else we become “reactionary” in trying to hold onto it.
Everglades Daily Bugle, 12/19/00 EXTRA!!! A statewide survey of the intent of Florida voters who failed to reach the polls due to heavy traffic, oversleeping, urgent cell phone calls or being denied entry by jack-booted, goose-stepping Republican thugs has revealed 59,784 additional votes for Al Gore.
Better recall those inauguration invites.
Or better yet, use the spoiled ballots to stuff souvenir pillows to sell at the next Democratic Party fundraiser. That way they’ll actually be useful.
