So, how's 24 these days?

Please no spoilers!

I was a great fan of 24 back in the day - seasons 2 and 3 were compulsive viewing. In my view season 4 wasn’t as good, season 5 I initially only caught half of, but it grabbed me enough to make me purchase the DVD and finish the season, which renewed my hope. Season 6 was absolute madness (in a bad way), and I’ve only been able to catch the first few hours of season 7, although it seemed pretty good.

I’ve not caught up with it though, and haven’t the faintest clue about season 8. It’s hard to look up this stuff on the internet because it’s an absolute minefield for spoilers. Are the recent seasons worth looking into or has seasonal rot set in?

Season six, as you know, was terrible. Season seven (with the change in location to DC) was marginally better, but still not so good (definitely not as good as 5).

Season 8, IMO, has been very good so far. And since it’s the last season, I’m expecting them to go out with a bang.

It is a bit different this (final) year.
The big horror of bomb and all was resolved relatively quickly…but now they seem to be going in a suddenly different direction that is actually kind of cool - not so much “action” based plot, but suddenly a turn for the moral/ethical questions. I am sure bad things are about to take place (the producers have hinted at that) in ways that have never happened before.

Granted, as we know there is a full length feature film planned, I think it is a given that Jack isn’t going to die.
But still, this might be the first season where Jack does something unexpected and out of character.

For the first time, I have no idea how 24 is going to end this season!

BTW, I would love to be a fly on the wall in Chloe’s bedroom at the end of this 24 hour day when her husband asks, “So, how was work today?”

You picked an interesting time to ask…

Until recently, fandom seems to have been divided. Some were saying it was one of the best seasons (out of the recent ones) and some were saying it was the worst.

The conspiracy this year is convoluted and relies on lots of hasty last-minute plans that miraculously work out for the bad guys. But this is hardly new for 24.

There has been an event recently that made lots of fans really really mad. I can’t tell you the nature of the event because telling you so would spoil it. But you’ll know it when you see it.

For reason’s I cannot pin down this season has not grabbed me. I haven’t watched the latest 2 episodes yet, and am not sure if I will.

One thing that I think is contributing to my indifference is that it doesn’t feel like anything new.

There’s also a subplot that centers on a character that makes my skin crawl. I can’t really clarify that without spoiling.

I will watch the rest of the season because I see things through, dammit! (I still watch Grey’s Anatomy fercryinoutloud and that sucks more than 24 could ever suck even if it were trying to)

It seems to depend on what you like about 24 and what annoys you. They seem to have gotten the pacing much better than in recent seasons. They still have distinct ‘acts’ to the day, but it doesn’t seem like they made them up as they do. It seems much more coherent and less frenetic. On the other hand, it’s a lot slower action-wise than all the other seasons, including seasons where they paced themselves well and still packed the whole season with absurd 24-style action.

I’d say it’s pretty telling that they didn’t even pitch an idea to Fox or Keifer Sutherland for a season 9. They’re just out of ideas. They admitted they’re out of ideas too, but man, they’re really out of ideas.

If you mean Dana Walsh you should at least watch to see Jack beat the snot out of her. If there’s another 24 character who makes your skin crawl even MORE than Dana, you’re crazy.
