Awaiting the next season of "24" - or not

So Fox is apparently going to be releasing a trailer for Season 7 of “24” in about five days. The season premiere is set for January 13th. Normally, this is the time of year where I’d start to get anxious about it. I’d be pissing and moaning that all the other shows have already begun their new seasons, but we have to wait forever for “24” to debut.

But I realize I don’t feel that way this time around. For the first time in six years, I don’t really care when it shows up. And…I’m not entirely sure I’m going to watch it at all this season. I feel like I’ve really lost all my enthusiasm for the show.

Anyone else feeling this way after last season? What are you anticipating this time around?

My enthusiasm for this show has lessened with each passing season and, like you, this last season pushed me from “Yeah, it could be okay” to “I don’t even care anymore.” I’ll probably watch the first two or three hours because they still do great set-ups at the beginning of every season. Beyond that, I’m out. Hell, I can’t even remember how last season ended.

Millions of people were going to die, then they didn’t.

Oh, hell. I just remembered Chloe’s still on the show. (She didn’t die, right? I don’t remember her dying. Please say she didn’t die!)

So long as she’s around, I’m not sure I can pull myself away.

The terrorists are always more or less defeated in the end. Why even bother watching? Not to mention their plans keep getting ever more complicated and crazy. Does anybody end up rooting for the terrorists?

I’m still looking forward to it. It’s a good show to watch while working out.

Of course, I’d enjoy it even more if it were animated. Or a musical.

Yeah, this pretty much describes my attitude. Hell, I didn’t even see (or care) how last season ended–gave up at about hour 16. (I assume Jack saved the world somehow.) Sad because I used to be a big fan and get so excited for each of Jack’s impossible challenges.

Here’s what I think has contributed to my increased disinterest:

 • Too much CTU/White House soap opera
 • Too much familiarity with the formula
 • Too few hours in my week to devote one to a show that doesn’t really grab me anymore

I don’t know if I’ll watch this season or not. 24 sure isn’t the “must see” hour of television it used to be for me.

I lost interest part way through last season, though I may start watching the next season again if the reports I’ve read are true that

Tony is back from the dead.

I will probably watch. But only because I read an article last year where even the writers admitted that they completely gone off the rails. Assuming that they are serious about that, they may try to bring it back to life.

For me, it went downhill when they stopped trying to keep to the “Events happen in real time” premise.

Will someone be chased by a mountain lion this year? If not, forget it.

In other news, I’m toying with the idea of watching the show along with the rest of the world this season.

I’m in.

I saw a spoiler that intrigued me, but I would have been in anyway.

Between Dirty Sexy Money and 24 I can get my Sutherland fix.

Even though the seasons have been less heart stopping, I just can’t leave a show that I’ve seen six seasons of. I say it has about two seasons left in it.

I will certainly watch the first ep to see if Chloe, her Taser or M4 and the Jack Bauer Slide of Death[TM]* are prominently featured. Beyond that, only if the plot is so outrageous that the snarks in the show threads make it worthwhile.

*Dammit, how do I do “TM” symbol?

Care to spoiler box it for us? I’m still vaguely interested in the goings on.

Sure. It’s vague, but

spoilers ahead

Tony’s back and the next conspiracy involves the Vatican.

Well, that’s quite a change from the usual villians. I just get so POed at this show, because it has such high-falutin’ pretensions, and stumbles so horribly at times. The formula definitely needs to be revamped; the main problem is one which bedevils many RPG groups, where in each adventure the newest villian has to one-up the previous villian in some way, so the plots just become bloated, overburdened, and increasingly ludicrious. Shifting it to a new group which isn’t threatening to destroy half of the Western world might just work, if for no other reason than by racheting down the Dread Level a bit from the previous silly extremes.

Ha! Wait.

The spoiler I gave is almost certainly wrong. I got it from someone who tends to read a lot of spoilers (I don’t tend to read them myself) and I trusted what she said.

But when I just did a search for it, I found:
They hired an actor named “Pope.” I wonder if my source got confused.

Um, Tony’s definitely coming back, though.

Sorry for not looking that up before posting.
Actually, if they have anyone in the new season who’s last name is Palmer, I just might stop watching it.

Those two were horrible last season.
