So I am *really* enjoying Deep Space 9

So I picked up the first season of DS9 a few months ago on a lark.

Half way through I realized that I hadn’t seen many of these shows. Thinking back I realized that I’d watched some episodes in the first season but then gone off to Iowa for grad school.

With no television.

This is much better than I’d thought it would be. I’ve just finished the second season with the first appearance of the Jem Hadar. Man, that’s badass.

Why the hell didn’t you people tell me it was this good?

The theme changes later in the show’s run. Worf is introduced as a character and the plots become much more serialized and militaristic.

I loved it, others didn’t. I need to find the early episodes, since I didn’t watch faithfully until Worf showed up.

For what it’s worth, I did. And for that matter, so did others. So quit whining.

Seriously, DS9 is pretty easily my favorite Trek series. It has the strongest overall storyline and some of the more interesting single episodes, including the famous Tribble episode. The only real problem I had with it was that the final, series-ending episode (which I just saw last night) could have been so much better… but there are worse things.

And if you think it’s good now, just wait until you get to the Dominion Wars. That’s when it really starts to kick ass.

Enjoy!

DS9, along with Wrath of Khan and First Contact, are pretty much all that keeps me from writing off the entire Star Trek franchise. Never cared for TOS, Next Gen was always hit or miss, and the less said about Voyager and Enterprise the better, but DS9 was the one show that I’d go out of my way to watch every week.

Especially the episode where they arm the station to the teeth and shoot anything that moves.

They blow’d up good. They blow’d up REAL good.

I worship at the altars of Ira Steven Behr and Michael Piller every chance I get. TOS was nothing but pure cheese, TNG was good but too bland in its holier than thou utopia, Voyager was only for the diehard fans of the franchise (such as myself) who could put their brain on autopilot and Enterprise is much like Voyager.

Deep Space Nine, on the other hand, is an epic waiting to happen.

My cousin loved DS9 too and keeps asking me when they’re going to make a DS9 movie. It’s a nice thought but I just don’t think it will ever happen.

shakes fist menacingly

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Return of Ben Sisko.

'Nuff said.

We can all yearn for it–and I do–but will the powers at Paramount hear our collective cry?

Maybe if we storm the gates with phasers blazing?

Or in your case, a Xindi mini-death star cutting a swath through certain producers’/writers’ offices?

Are you calling me a Star Wars fan? Those’re fighting words!

[crunch]

[munch munch munch]

Whatcha doin?

I was making an elliptical reference to the Bermaga’s offices. Ya missed it!

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!

:dubious:

::reholsters phaser::

Glad we avoided that.

Garak is so damn cool.

I always liked Dukat and Damar better but Garak’s a badass too.

Do you read the Trek novels? If so, pick up “A Stitch in Time” by Andrew Robinson, the actor who played Garak. It’s a biography of sorts and is really interesting.

Garak is probably one of the single best characters ever in any ST franchise. From beginning to end, I had more questions about him than answers.

The DS9 DVDs are my next purchase, after I complete my Babylon 5 set.

Does ANYONE still watch Enterprise? I tried, I really did. But I just hit my limit. Come on, stop rewriting canon every time we turn around!

Si. There’s a new thread for each new episode and all the Enterprise threads together equal over three thousand posts. There’re a few of us left. ;j
