So, I cut the pad off of my finger yesterday

Well not completely off. It’s hanging on by a thread, but it’s all bluish white, and hasn’t re-bonded to the skin so it’ll probably dry up and fall off eventually. Anyway, I’m wondering if this means no fingerprint for good, or will it grow back as it heals? Can anyone who’s had this happen shed some light?

Man, it’s difficult to fall back into the hunt and peck method of typing.

I lost the pad of my right ring finger a year ago. I have thick hard scar tissue, no finger print. My nail is deformed (no more hand modeling for me! ) and it’s very intolerant to cold.

When I did this as a child, the fingerprint for that area grew back as a weird sorta splotchy dotty mess. You can still make out the lines somewhat, but it’s as if the lines were cut up into little dots.

Here, just see for yourself.

I had this happen to me when I was 2 years old.

As far as I can tell I do have a fingerprint on that finger. I guess part of it depends on how much of the tip was removed. I lost a pretty big chunk (when I compare it to the other hand I can see a very noticable difference), so my nail looks like a claw.

The oddest part is that the finger in question is my right index finger, the one everyone wants to use when finger printing you (US immigration and my last employer being everyone) but when I hold up the aforementioned finger they just settle for using a different one, even though it does have a finger print.
