On Friday when I came home I heard a cat meowing but I ignored it and went inside. When I got to my apartment my cat came to greet me, then abandoned me to sit by the open window and reply to the yowling critter outside. So I grabbed a can of catfood and went back outside see if I could lure the thing out. It turned out to be a black kitten who was hungry enough to let me touch her while she gobbled the food. So I coaxed her into a cat carrier and released her into my bathroom where she promptly hid behind the toilet. A trip to the vet yesterday confirmed that she is a she and does not have FIV or FeLV. So she gets to stay!
Since being released from quarantine in the bathroom she’s been mostly hiding under my bed with occasional forays for food or exploration. Gus seems to be mostly OK with the new roommate.
If you haven’t named her yet, may I recomend “Lucky”?
Lucky she found you?
Lucky you’re keeping her?
Lucky that Gus isn’t jealous?
I have a cat named Lucky who is black w. a white underbelly. She cries when she hears my voice & warms my feet nightly. Single most loving cat I have ever [del]owned[/del] roomed with.
I’ve heard a vet say that Lucky is a common cat name for just the reason in the OP, that someone found them and is willing to take care of them. My sister has a cat named Lucky, and for just that reason.
I’ve met far too many Lucky’s to believe that they may have any luck at all. If they did, it was all spent in one place with nothing but disaster to follow. Besides, it’s so common.
I’ve decided my next black cat (whenever that may be) will be named October.
I can tell you from experience, when it’s acting up and being a general giant pain in the ass. DO NOT say, “for a stray, I think you would be better behaved”. Really hurts their feelings.
Of course they still don’t understand NO. Don’t eat that. and Stop shitting on my pillow, which of course wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t tell them they were adopted… unwillingly and accidentally.
