This is a little too lightweight for GQ so I’m putting it here.
I just started this Facebook thing the other day. Facebook pages are (assumedly) real names. If you contact people representing themselves as being members of the SDMB do you ask to join their friend network and ID your SDMB name or not?
What’s the right etiquette in asking to be joined to someone’s Facebook network based on a presumed affiliation like the dope?
Bah. I don’t understand this newfangled Facebook horse hockey. The only SDMB I found on it was in reference to the Sun Devil Marching Band.
This new form of internet entertainment/socializing scares and bewilders me. It makes me angry and frustrated, while giving me feelings of wanting to vomit, crawl under my bed and punch my mailman in the face.
I’d ask for help, but how do you ask for help from an unknown enemy?
My real concern is that if I get into a debate scrum or post something that really offends/outrages someone on the SDMB, will they try to come after me in real life? Net anonymity makes people amazingly petty. I’ll readily give my IRL ID to SDMB people I trust (and have) but opening it up by linking my IRL name and identity seems like a little too much exposure to make me comfortable.
Heh, I think most people just send friend requests. In fact, I think I got a couple and denied the request because I didn’t recognize the name so if those people wanted to try again…
But once you have a couple SDMB friends it gets easier cause other requests will likely have your friends as mutual. Does this make sense?
