On our most recent grocery shopping trip, my mother and I came upon a large freezer display of something called “Signature Pick 5”. There are like 12 items to choose from, and you can get any five for $20. For example, a bag of crinkle-cut French fries, potato wedges, tater tots, onion rings, chicken sandwich sliders, and so on.
I don’t know if Signature Pick 5 is a new thing or just new to me, but in any event we decided to give it a shot, 'cuz what the hell. We needed to fill the freezer, and it’s good to have some convenience foods on standby.
We got an eight-pack of raw quarter-pound hamburger patties, an eight-pack of corn dogs, some pepperoni mini bagels, some chicken sandwich sliders, and a tub of peach cobbler.
We had the burgers last night on some potato rolls, with ketchup (and in Mom’s case, mustard, blech.) They were, eh, about average. Kinda salty, obviously “bargain-bin”, but not too bad, considering. Next time I’ll cook up some onions to go on the burgers; maybe add some Worcestershire sauce or something to give it a little extra kick.
Just had one of the corn dogs, and it was pretty good. 7-Eleven-quality, I’d say. I’m hardly a corn dog connoisseur; outside of 7-Elevens and freezer corn dogs, I hardly eat them at all unless I go to, like, a carnival or something. But again, shrug Pretty serviceable.
Anyone else ever have these? Any recommendations on products to try, and ones to avoid?
