So I saw THE AVIATOR last night... possible spoilers

I apologize for starting what I know is a duplicate thread, but for some reason my computer keeps timing out whenever I try to “Search” for the last AVIATOR thread.

I saw it and generally liked it, though I thought 40 minutes or so could have been shaved quite easily. I was surprised they didn’t mention Hughes’s first marriage (especially since he would have been married when the film began. They also should have had an afterward as the movie implied he was totally descending into madness but in reality he rallied enough to marry at least once, possibly twice (depending on whether you believe Terry Moore) and the crazy man in the Kleenex box shoes was mostly the last decade of his life.

I loved Cate Blanchett’s Hepburn- she steared clear (in my opinion) of pointed imitation and is assured of an Oscar nomination. One of my favorite scenes in the piece was Hughes’s dinner with her “You Can’t Take it With You” like family. I thought the movie erred in making the battle with Pan-Am the dramatic high-point.Kate Beckinsale was also good but she’ll never see the day she’ll be as beautiful as the young Ava (if anybody can be- that’s a woman I believe could have converted me.)

So what’d y’all think of it? (I’m curious to know what Eve thought of the depictions of Jean Harlow and other 30s icons.)

Here’s the previous Aviator thread.
