So I was prescribed Temazepam for anxiety and panic attacks. How is it?

Okay, probably going to bed within the next hour…so that was, um, about ten hours.

I did take a nap earlier, but it was only for an hour. This drug should be keeping me asleep longer than that, right?

Anyway, I’ll let the doc know, next time I see her, that it doesn’t seem to be working too well.

Not planning to use them long term, she only gave me ten…so it’s just for short term use.

Not recommended for long-term use, very addictive, can make you sleep walk, sleep eat, sleep drive etc. Lots of horror stories out there. I never slept well, but three hours a night (every night, for two weeks) in 2006 was the final straw and I started taking sleeping tablets, where I lived you could buy them over the counter without a prescription. Very easy to abuse but I’ve never taken more than a half.

I went to see my doctor back at home and he gave me a prescription for three. By this point I’d been taking them, or similar (Zolpidem, Trialozan, Diazepam etc) for around six years and sleeping really well. The doctor said he’d only give me three as a short-term measure, after I told him I couldn’t sleep well without them he said I was an addict. After those three ran out I didn’t sleep well, but didn’t have any withdrawal symptoms. He said not sleeping was a withdrawal symptom, which struck me as odd because I wasn’t sleeping well before I started using them.

I’ve been very careful with them, never taking more than a half, only taking before I go to bed, not operating heavy machinery etc. So far, I’ve not had any issues and almost always sleep well. Online you’ll see many people are on them for years and just sleep well, only when people start upping their doses for a buzz do they sometimes get unstuck. The drugs deserve a lot more respect than alcohol. You’ll also find, online, ways to buy them but they’re a restricted drug, you can get into trouble with the police, which is a shame as the prices are much lower.

Yeah, I, (have had constant insomnia since puberty) who only started pills because of an MD’s insistence, am now getting (from another MD), this crap of “your insomnia is caused by the sleeping pills”.

I am likely to be in the market for a new PCP.
