When I saw that picture, I was expecting a Poe-like twist to the story.
Beautiful setup Patty. To the OP - if your not quite as ambitious as Patty, it’s fairly easy to hide wires behind a 3 sided box/panel that you put between the TV and the shelving unit below it. I made one out of cardboard, painted it the same color as the wall, and attached it with poster putty. It hides 2 sets of component+audio cables, 2 power cables, 1 HDMI cable, and a few sets of composite+audio cables with no problem.
Your hardware store should carry something similar, but with a much lower profile (~1" thick and ~3-4" wide). You run the wires behind it and paint it the same color as the wall. Home Depot had them when I was there last night.
And if you’re popping for a 52" TV, $300 for a good AV receiver can eliminate a very large chunk of those cables going to your TV. I just have power, 1 HDMI cord and 1 component+audio cord, since my receiver manages about 3 other sets of wires and feeds it via the HDMI to the TV.
Oh, thanks for the heads up! We’re going to hang our TV on the wall (eventually, we’ve been saying that for over a year because we’re sick of renos). I probably never would have thought to check that out. A good friend of ours is an AV guy who runs such cabling for a living, so I’m sure he would have pounced on us prior to installation, but I appreciate the heads up nonetheless.
