So I'm Going To Antarctica...

Greetings Dopers!

I have returned to the States, safe and sound. I will give a more detailed account in the next few days, but let me say that the trip was amazing. I had several moments of ‘Holy shit, I’m actually walking on Anarctica’. My favorite part was actually riding around in the zodiac rafts and checking out the icebergs. The blue of the ice was something I’ve never seen before.

I took approximately 700 pictures and short 640x480 videos. I’m going to begin sorting through them this week, but it will take a few days. Does anyone have recommendations about photo services? The photos are roughly 2mb each and I’d like to preserve their resolution so everyone can get the best view posible. Also, Quark will be publishing a CD of the historians photos in about a month which should have additional, professional quality photos. I’ll be sure to post them when I get them.

Welcome back, and I’m looking forward to the pictures. Photobucket might be a good place, and Flickr is astoundingly popular as well.

May I interrupt this thread to say, “Wow! Cool!”?

Wow! Cool!

Thanks. I’m looking forward to seeing the photos.

“Cool”? Antacrtica? :smack:

I’ve been posting holiday pics over on http://photos.yahoo.com myself.

First, it’s “Antarctica”.
Second … :: kicks Bosda in the shins :: Boo! :stuck_out_tongue:

Ask the USAF.

HEY! I’m typing in work gloves, here!

Well, then I’ll have to steal a line from The Young Ones: That’s absolutely icebox!

It’s Penguin Cr@p, that’s what it is. :dubious:

Jerzy Balowski is penguin crap?

No, just your quick-frozen jokes.

Did you happen to meet a female professor from northern Ontario with some outdoor education university students in tow?

No, can’t say that I did.

TERRIBLE UPDATE:

My hard drive has crashed along with all my photos. And no, I didn’t back them up in the 3 days I’ve been back. :smack: In the event that it won’t boot up again I’ll be taking it to a data recovery service; there’s no way I’m going to lose these pictures. Any advice on how/where to get that done if need be? Thanks in advance. I think I’m going to cry…

How awful CMiller. I hope you can recover them all.

There are data recovery services that can help you, but it may not be time for that yet. What is your computer? Mac, PC? System version? Laptop or desktop?

You’re killing me, man. I haven’t made any jokes.

You are indeed correct. After letting my computer sit for a day or so I managed to get it to boot up long enough to transfer my photos to an external hard drive. I have a new computer arriving next week and will upload my photos then. My brother is also uploading his shots soon; I’ll post that link as soon as I get it.

Phew!

That’s good news. I look forward to your antarctic pics.

Sorry to bump this slightly old thread, but what happened to the pictures, man? We’ve been waiting for months for pictures. Months!
