So i'm high. Now I need a "stoned" playlist. What songs do you recommend?

Not that the Straight Dope would ever, ever condone the use of illegal drugs, but…

Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield

Illegal drugs are just wrong. With that said…

Flying High Again - Ozzy
Desire - Ozzy
I Got High - Afroman
Superfreak - Rick James
Take Me Higher - Sonique

“Great Gig in the Sky” from Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon

“Nights in White Satin” – Moody Blues

The entire Tubular Bells album.

“Tomorrow Never Knows” - Beatles

“High all the time” - Fity Cent

Spirit’s “12 Dreams of Doctor Sardonicus” -Headphones required.

The Kinks- Acute Schizophrenia Paranoia Blues

The Pixies-Where is my mind

Good one!

Is it just me, or does a poster named ParentalAdvisory posting to this thread seem funny. I am still chuckling.

Oh, and so its not a complete hijack, a couple of more albums.

Gorillaz - Gorillaz
The Matrix Soundtrack

Gah! The hamsters ate my post! Here we go again.

Willy Wonka - Pure Imagination
Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit
Oasis - Champagne Supernova*
Foghat - I Just Wanna Make Love to You
Strawberry Alarm Clock - Incense and Peppermints
The Electric Prunes - I Had Too Much to Dream
Cream - White Room (the version from Live Cream Vol. II)
Kermit the Frog - Rainbow Connection

*There is something about this song that makes stoned groups of people sing it rapturously and loudly. YMMV, but I’ve seen this happen multiple times. Also, that stereo water sound is awesome when you’re stoned.

I remember when that song first came out in high school. Your right, at the time all the stoners sang to this song, including myself. Probably because it contained the words, “Where were you while we were getting high?” For some reason, the stoners thought this was like some kind of a master peice, a kind of “getting high” song.?.?

good one
also by the beatles
“baby youre a rich man”
“strawberry fields” -quick story , i had a FRIEND, who listened to this stoned, and where everyone says lennon says “i buried paul”, the real words “cranberry sauce” can be heard clear as day
“day in the life”- same friend heard at the end in the long piano fade out, listen to the very end, you cn hear someone creak the piano bench, and someone else says “shh”
“im only sleeping” the abbey road medley
the list goes on and on, but if you are really in the mood for a wild ride,
“revolution #9

Oh my gods, I very nearly forgot an extremely important couple of tunes from the electronic side!

Crystal Method - Magic Carpet Ride
Delerium - Silence (Sasha & Digweed Remix)*

*This is key, people. Sara Maclachlan’s vocal parts and all the giant trance chords will make you believe in the silence, trust me. Just be patient and let it build. I got chills just thinking about it… time to listen.

Not to nag, but…

On the straight dope,

We cant condone downloading music off the internet, but we can condone listening to music while smoking pot?

One isnt illegal (yet) and the other is blatantly illegal…

smoking pot. Not listening to music while smoking. Bah, you know what I mean.

Well he ishigh. He’s not asking how to get high.

You can always tell the amateurs, can’t you?

When you’re stoned, want albums, not songs: you don’t want to have to select a new song every three minutes, even if it seems a lot longer.

I’m stunned that nobody’s mentioned the Grateful Dead in three dozen posts, so put on American Beauty.

If you’re in for stoned humor, try Firesign Theatre’s Waiting for the Electrician or Don’t Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers.

In theory, under scientific conditions, for medical reasons, after a raging bout of glaucoma, and nausea, with anxiety, in some states when the feds. aren’t looking, void where prohibited, professional driver on closed course, I’d suggest:

Songs: “Pepper” by the Butthole Surfers; “Natural One” by Folk Implosion off the Kids Soundtrack; “Bitter Sweet Symphony” by the verve; “Are You Experienced” Jimi Hendrix (the song especially, but the whole album really); “Bodyrock” by Moby (or about 20 other songs*); “Blue” (album mix) by LeTour.

A few CDs: Surrender by the Chemical Brothers; Skylarking by XTC AHEM The Wall by Pink Floyd; COUGH (planetariums everywhere bow in reverence) Low by David Bowie…

*Moby does not use drugs, so don’t blame him!

We don’t know where Gozu is located and it might be legal for him to be stoned where Gozu is.
