I wasn’t a recruiter but an assistant. It was for only 6 days in 1987.
For me it was 6 extra days back home and off the Carrier. I didn’t especially like it, but it was nice to be home for a while.
It is possible you are implying recruiting is tougher now, but keep in mind the economy was great in '87 and while it wasn’t as tough to recruit as right now with a now unpopular war going on, it wasn’t easy when businesses were begging for help.
