They guys was taking the issue seriously! Then had to resign for a scandal of his own.
Convicted sex offender hired back as a pastor. Idiots write angry letters to a newspaper. Not about him being fired, but about the newspaper writing about it.
Holy Fuck! :mad::eek::mad::eek:
Here is the kicker:
We gotta keep the damn gays and wimmins out of the pulpit!!! Sex Offenders, well they’re OK!!!
What the fuck is wrong with people???
They are supposed to spreading Christianity.
“So many people’s faith is murdered. I mean, their faith is slaughtered by these predators.”
But is not much the predators. Its the indifference to the predators.
Religious organizations, especially traditional and conservative ones with a strong sense of subservience to the leadership, are prime spots for abusers to get away with abuse. Not all priests/pastors are abusers, but abusers will be strongly attracted to positions like pastor and priest in which it’s much easier to find and abuse victims, then keep them quiet.
No large organiztion should be trusted to police their own.
It seems strange that there would be such a strong link between ancient Jewish philosophy and kiddie diddling, but the evidence is overwhelming.
As to the question of how they can accept that and maintain their vitriol against gays, check out this article about the latest gay marriage ban attempt in Kansas. In a nutshell, they claim that gays are followers of secular humanism, as a religion, and that gay marriage therefore has to be rejected because it is a religious practice. Not making this up!
Well, your non-catholic religions may be trying to muscle in, but they have a ways to go:
“US ex-cardinal Theodore McCarrick defrocked over abuse claims…Theodore McCarrick is the most senior Catholic figure to be dismissed from the priesthood in modern times.”
The whole story - which also recaps some other recent highlights - is horrible, but some of it is downright bizarre:* “In recent weeks, Pope Francis has also admitted that priests have sexually abused nuns and in one case kept them as sex slaves.”*
How many of these cases were covered up? How many school boards transferred abusive teachers around? How many refused to go to the authorities?
How many heads of state boards of education did this also?
The potential for this kind of thing to happen exists any place where people get together, be they men, women, or children. It’s more about power than it is about religion.
I sometimes listen to a podcast done by a couple who left the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and they were talking about sexual abuse (and its coverup) in that religion. They mentioned that the Seventh-Day Adventists have a protocol for dealing with sexual abuse, and one of the sections has to do with how to handle things when the perpetrator is a child.
