Well, I’ve so far resisted post anything here about the stressful hellishness of applying and interviewing for specialist medical training here. I can no loger resist…I found out today I’ve got the 3 year GP training position in my first choice location. Yeay!
As some of you may be aware, I really wanted to be an OB/Gyn, but I didn’t get the 3 year post, only a 1 year post (which would mean fiercer competition next year and the possibility of no job at all in 12months).
Anyhow, my back-up plan was GP- nice family-friendly hours, and plenty of antenatal care, family planning and well woman clinics to keep me happy. It wasn’t a great backup because there are 65 jobs for more than 400 applicants in Northern Ireland, but hey it worked out for me!
So, after 22 more months of hospital medicine and 18 months of being a junior GP, plus some nasty exams, I’ll be a GP!
Woo hoo!
Well done! I know there have been some ghastly messes to do with doctors’ training in recent years, so I’m very glad you have got the right job AND in the right place. Congratulations!
Well come to Canada, then, Lass! We’re begging for GPs, and since you’ve gone to a school in the English speaking sphere / commonwealth, they’ll take you no problem…
By the way, it hurts when I do this: :smack: what should I do?
Specifically, come to Bancroft, Ontario: the four-season playground halfway between Ottawa and Toronto. The land is beautiful, the air is fresh, the night sky is incredible on a clear night, the wildlife is plentiful. The town has an art gallery, a playhouse, and a pretty good independent bookshop. And living costs are low, low, low! You can rent a house for $500 a month. My friends and I can show you how to build a house that doesn’t even need a furnace, and has places to grow flowers and vegetables year-round.
