So many games, so little time....

I tell ya, I really miss the days when I had hours upon hours to spend playing video/computer games. I’ve been stuck in a full time job with a 3 hour round-trip commute for nearly 2 years, giving me very little time (on the plus side, I commute via train, so I can at least keep up with the GBA library) to get caught up. The list of games on my to-play list has grown to the point of being overwelming…and honestly, when I do find the time, I keep going back to Katamari Damacy and Trainz Railroad Simulator, despite already playing the hell out of both of them (hey, they’re fun…). Anyway, help me narrow down this list, so that I can decide which one to play the hell out of first (I’ve already seen/played enough of each of these to know that I’d like them if I gave them a chance):

Pirates! remake
Shadow Hearts 1 & 2
Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2
the two newest Prince of Persia games
Vice City & San Andreas (I played the hell out of GTA3 a couple years ago, almost losing my girlfriend in the process)
Baldeur’s Gate 1 & 2
Call of Duty/Medal of Honor/Battlefield whatever … ok, just tell me which one is the BEST of the realistic war FPSes?
Half Life 2
Thief 3
Metal Gear Solid 3
the Splinter Cell games

and I haven’t tried them yet, but I’ve had friends begging me to the play the Homeworld games

I’d say to go with the two Call of Duty games and play the hell out of the solo campaigns.

Thief 3 is worthy, as is Half Life 2. I’m currently engrossed in Pirates, and I love the Splinter Cell games. I’m a big sneaking fan, which is why the Thief series and Splinter Cell hold my attention…both series are very well executed. Half Life 2 is just downright fun, and Pirates is campy and fun, but we’ll see where it leads. I’ve got KotOR, and it’s excellent, but as I’m not much of a role-player, my interest in it comes and goes. It’s the best RPG I’ve played, though.

I’ve been loving Baldur’s Gate 2 lately - various sites like Pocket Plane Group have mods for the game, unofficial bug fixes, new NPCs, stuff like that. A related game (not like you need more) is the more recent Neverwinter Nights and its two expansions; people have developed a ton of free, downloadable modules for the game which help a lot with replay.

I absolutely adored KotOR 1, but the replay value is somewhat limited. Still haven’t bought KotOR 2 (for PC) yet, though I know it’s out… twitch

I recently finished Half-Life 2 and loved it. I enjoyed Baldur’s Gate 1 when I played it (years ago). GTA3 and GTA-VC were great. I liked KOTOR.

Haven’t played the other games on your list.

BTW, I also thought Katamari Damacy was the cutest game… not quite sure how it fits with the games that you mention, however.

Okay, I see you have Pirates! but where are the Civilization games? Your Sid Meier section is sorely lacking.

Civcrack3 is one of the reasons I failed out of college…as good as that game is, I refuse to reinstall it, with the exception of on a laptop on a long, long plane trip. I really don’t need to be staying up until 7am on weeknights.

The charm of Katamari is that I can load that game up and play it for either 5 minutes or hours at a time, and stop whenever I want, and still get plenty of satisfaction out of it. There really aren’t too many games made like that anymore (certainly none on my list!) I guess I wasn’t clear in the OP, but I’m trying to get a suggestion for a game to put a commitment into. I’m just overwelmed with stuff on my to-do list that I really don’t know where to start, and I feel that it’s hurting my character that I’ve been mostly ignoring (not purposely, I just haven’t had the time or motivation to dedicate time to this hobby) an industry which is still outputting plenty of good product.

I’ve been playing MOHAA (Medal of Honor: Allied Assault) multiplayer online for about 2.5 years now. Another year of this and I think I’ll consider myself an addict.

Nothing takes the edge off of a hard day like killing a few nazis…

Give it a shot! (heh)
