Oh noes! I had been seeing the threats for some time but I had seen them before from different stations and they always pulled it out by the last minute and never actually split. So I didn’t think anything of it. But not this time- they’re gone! And I watch so many CBS shows! I mean, I watch uh… um… oh hey, I watch The Amazing Race! And* Judge Judy* when I get home from work every day! And, although I can’t think of any right now, I’m sure there are many, many other fine quality CBS shows that I watch regularly.
What will happen? Will they get back together? Has this happened to you? I know I can set up an antennae or watch Hulu or whatever- I’m not sure I want to go to any actual trouble to watch CBS but I know that I can.
I hadn’t heard anything about that, nothing like the big Time-Warner/CBS issue a couple months ago. Did some digging, found out that the media group that presumably owns your local CBS station also owns several other broadcast stations from various networks in the south (looks like mostly CBS and NBC, but some others as well)–so it’s not CBS vs Dish in this case, it’s Media General vs Dish.
Possibly complicating things is that Media General is in the middle of being bought out by Young Broadcasting. Hard to tell exactly what’s going on, but it’s possible that some people at Media General are playing extreme hardball in order to try and make themselves look better with the usual spectre of redundancy cuts that come with mergers.
Plug some rabbit ears or other antenna into the back of your TV and see. If you live within 50 miles or so of their tower you should be able to receive the broadcast.
I really don’t understand why local channels, that broadcast over the air for free, are asking for money from Dish or anyone else. They make their money with commercials, people watching their channel = more eyes on commercials = happy advertisers = profit.
