I used to like to just poke around there when I ran out of things to do. But now I have to sign up and register. This is the site’s rationale for this:

But I’m not on Facebook, and I don’t “like” anything. I don’t want to save or follow or customize. I limit what I sign up for, even with my bogus email addresses. I don’t care what they suggest and it doesn’t have to be based on a profile or history. I don’t care about the quality of my stumbles. I liked the elements of unpredictability and surprise.

Grrr.

Is there another site/service that can just direct me to (more or less) randomly chosen sites.

I hope Stumbleupon develops a boil on its ass.

They used to have a preview framed version on their website. Do they not have that anymore?

Just create or use a throw away email address to sign up. That is what I did when they asked for this a couple of years ago. It would let me stumble for a few turns but eventually would just keep coming back to that stupid page. I never have (and won’t ever) link to my FB or other accounts. So I used a hotmail address that I use for dumbass shit like this–they can have that all day long as far as I am concerned!

try spamgourmet.com for throwaway emails. If your username is straightdope you can sign up to any site as thissite.straightdope@spamgourmet.com or th1s5ite5.straightdope@spamgourmet.com. The new account you’ve “created” simply by having an email sent to an address that ends in your user name gets 10 messages and then self destructs, no longer allowing new emails to come through. You can read them if you want (for those automated “click here to confirm” things they send out), but you don’t have to.

I do have a couple of accounts that I use to sign-up for stuff, but I resent that they are now making me do it in order to keep playing on their site. They can kiss my grits.
