Here’s the thing. I HATE the major networks anymore. Until they get with the program of being like cable with their scheduling, it’s only Hulu and Netflix for me.
Example: The only major network show I watch is Modern Family. I prefer not to tape or DVR it due to the cutting off the first few seconds and/or last few seconds.
I’m not a prime time person. I’m either out or online at the time, so I’ll forget MF is even on and on what day. I’m a late-nighter too.
Why can’t they rerun their prime time crap AFTER the talk shows at night? ABC certainly does not need to show Oprah at 1:00 AM. World News Now at 2:15?? WTF? Do they know about CNN, FOXNews, MSNBC?? World News Now is certainly nothing “now”, it’s what we’ve already seen and heard throughout the day. Do we even need local news shows now? Cut them out and we’ll get at least 1/2 hour for each one of these pseudo channels to rerun something we can’t see somewhere else.
I can watch most cable shows after 1:00 AM. (Kudos to Disney for showing Phineas & Ferb at 3:00 AM!) There’s a new South Park at 10:00 tonight. Am I worried? Nah, I’ll be home by 1:00.
Then there’s ESPN with Sports Center on about 33 times per day and they still have major sports on too.
ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX are still in the dark ages as far as I’m concerned. Get with it, boys, maybe I’ll be a new “V” fan or something.
Broadcast networks don’t work that way. Your local affiliate owns the schedule. They broadcast the network feed during prime time, but late at night they make money showing syndicated reruns and infomercials.
New shows won’t get sold into syndication unless they have around 100 episodes. You won’t see them outside of prime time until then.
In case you didn’t know, you can set your DVR to record one minute early to one minute late. I do that for several shows that I’ve found always run over.
Maybe I need to upgrade from TW Cable. There is no option on mine to do such a thing. Just like recently, we can’t rewind live broadcasts, like sports. If you missed the walk off homer, wait for Sports Center. But as I mentioned, that’s only like a 5 minute wait anyway.
Well. If you can’t tape things incrementally, you can go overboard and tape the show after and the show before to ensure that you get the entire episode of the show you want.
I still use mine. I don’t get the whole DVR cutting things off idea. I thought you could just program your DVR like a VCR and it would just record an extra few minutes on both ends so that you don’ t miss anything.
The problem is if you want to watch back-to-back shows on two different channels – if they are (accidentally or otherwise) not correctly timed then one of them is bound to be cut off.
ABC doesn’t broadcast Oprah. Your local ABC station broadcasts Oprah, along with ABC programs. Where I live, my local NBC station broadcasts Oprah.
I could make the same argument about rerunning prime time programs three hours after they ran the first time.
Again, something you need to ask your local station, not the network.
What’s the difference between running Sports Center all night long and running World News Now all night long? Aren’t both of them basically “what we’ve already seen and heard throughout the day” with a couple of updates?
You should have recorded it when you had the chance. It’s been canceled.
I’m guessing TW is Time Warner; they allow adjusting the record times in my area. When I’m in the show guide and press the record button a menu pops up that allows you to choose “record show” or something like “record show with options.” The latter lets you adjust the start/end time by a few minutes. If you don’t have that second choice, this won’t help, but I’m mentioning it just in case.
I still set all my recording timings by hand (and add two minutes at both ends). We have very few recording problems (except my DVR is a bitch and won’t record some shows because of station blocking signals).
I thought this complaint would be about time slots and how every freaking thing I want to watch is being broadcast at 9:00 on Monday, then tv wasteland for most of the rest of the week. I’m wondering if I should just cancel the cable and buy a set of dvds for what I want to see.
That might be a pretty good idea. Why, you might ask? Because the best thing about DVD releases is that there are virtually no commercials within the shows presented (so you can enjoy your favorite series in peace without having to deal with overlong commercial breaks).
A lot of network shows are now on OnDemand if your cable system has that, albeit some won’t let you fast forward so you’ll have to sit through commercials.
Alternatively there’s the network’s website or hulu.
Just giving some ideas, if they don’t work for you, they don’t work.
