So, the maintainance...

  1. How much drive space is on the SDMB server?
  2. What bandwidth to the net?
  3. Hi Opal! (Sorry Opal, just had to!)
  4. What specs on the server itself?

The reason I ask this is: I just acquired a RAID 7 array with 15 9.1 GB drives in it. 13 data drives, 1 parity and 1 hot spare. Call it 115GB of ultra fast storage. Would that be enough to cover the OS, software and database? This machine is incredible, with no data lost even if you start losing drives, and you can swap the drives for larger ones. Max capacity is 1 TB. All in a very nice glass fronted enclosure. ~ $90,000 when purchased 4 years ago.

Maybe we can work something out.

O

First things first. I’ve been after Jerry to install T-TOTAL, the breathylizer program that I think will cut down on the “who would win a fight between…” threads in GQ.

The words for the day are “maintenance” and “caramel”.

So are those gerbils going to get a spell checker during maintenance?

If you are bored they are having the Feast of Lanterns pageant in Pacific Grove, California saturday during the maintenance period, there are fireworks even though there is some hidden agreement not to ever mention it.

So, I can’t wait to see what happens to our post counts come monday.

Handy!
You made it past 10,000!
Congrats!!
Now do you do a rollback?

have you factored in the possible world wide potential for problems when the entire SDMB attempts to log in exactly on 7/30/01 at exactly 9:00 AM CDT? and they though Y2K would cause problems!

Jerry, will links in archived threads to other archived threads be able to work? Or will it at least be possible to figure out how to find a thread in the archives given its thread id number?

BTW, I thought it said “camel covered crack” and was really confused.

A whole damned board full of fustrated English teachers.
What I meant was, my ass is so big I need an entire city to cover my crack.

I thought I was perfectly clear.

Well, I won’t login at that time because that’s 7:00 AM PDT, and the library doesn’t open till 10:00 AM, three hours later. In fact, I may not show up till 11:00.

So if the SDMB crashes, it won’t be MY fault!

Darn it, Biggirl, now I’m getting all sweaty.

This seemed like and appropriate place to thank the people who have been working on speeding up the board. So… ummm… Thanks.

Come Monday, if this board is not up and running again, I will get on a bus and go to Chicago and, like Joe Besser, "I’ll give you all such a PINCH!!"

good nite board.

I was kind thinking about staying up until 3:00 in the morning to post this, but I’m too damn old for doing that just for the sake of literature anymore. So I’ll just say it now, and you can fill in for yourself how appropriate it would have been at 2:59 a.m.:

The rest is silence.

You all have good reason to be scared. I have it on good authority that the administrators have succumbed to the incredible hypnotic powers of jally.

Bring on the crapware, guys!

OK, OK, in all seriousness. You guys are doing a great job. Keep up the good work, have a nice weekend, and we’ll see you on Monday.

-Dave

Now I know how the Apollo astronauts felt when they lost radio contact with earth entirely as they went behind the moon.

Bye til then. Thanks for all you’re doing here.

(to be read on Monday morning:
‘was it good for you?’ )

Geez, I was just getting warmed up.

Good luck, Jerry!

Um, so how come I can do this?
