The reason I ask this is: I just acquired a RAID 7 array with 15 9.1 GB drives in it. 13 data drives, 1 parity and 1 hot spare. Call it 115GB of ultra fast storage. Would that be enough to cover the OS, software and database? This machine is incredible, with no data lost even if you start losing drives, and you can swap the drives for larger ones. Max capacity is 1 TB. All in a very nice glass fronted enclosure. ~ $90,000 when purchased 4 years ago.
First things first. I’ve been after Jerry to install T-TOTAL, the breathylizer program that I think will cut down on the “who would win a fight between…” threads in GQ.
So are those gerbils going to get a spell checker during maintenance?
If you are bored they are having the Feast of Lanterns pageant in Pacific Grove, California saturday during the maintenance period, there are fireworks even though there is some hidden agreement not to ever mention it.
So, I can’t wait to see what happens to our post counts come monday.
have you factored in the possible world wide potential for problems when the entire SDMB attempts to log in exactly on 7/30/01 at exactly 9:00 AM CDT? and they though Y2K would cause problems!
Jerry, will links in archived threads to other archived threads be able to work? Or will it at least be possible to figure out how to find a thread in the archives given its thread id number?
BTW, I thought it said “camel covered crack” and was really confused.
Well, I won’t login at that time because that’s 7:00 AM PDT, and the library doesn’t open till 10:00 AM, three hours later. In fact, I may not show up till 11:00.
I was kind thinking about staying up until 3:00 in the morning to post this, but I’m too damn old for doing that just for the sake of literature anymore. So I’ll just say it now, and you can fill in for yourself how appropriate it would have been at 2:59 a.m.:
