So, the new Clue: did they replace the Kitchen with a Laboratory?

Hasbro has fired Mrs White, the domestic servant and Cook at Boddy Manor, after half a century of loyal service.

In keeping with modern sensibilities, Mrs White has been replaced with Dr Orchid, a woman with a Ph.D. in chemistry, and a career outside the home. Hasbro has also added a seventh weapon, a small bottle of poison.

Have they also changed the game board? With Mrs White gone, is there a vacant Kitchen? Or has it been turned into a laboratory for the good Doctor’s researches?

I’m trying to find a pic online of the new board, but can’t. I didn’t see one on Boardgamegeek, either.

Anyone?

My edition, 2015 UK, has Dr Orchid but no extra bottle of poison. The gameboard is as I remember classic Cluedo (as we call it), with the kitchen, billiard room, conservatory et al.

Going through this video, it’s still the Kitchen, with Dr. Orchid but no extra bottle of poison.

What color is orchid?

A pinky purple

I dunno about the latest version, but we have the…uh…ok…i forgot what it is actually called, but something like the expert set. Has more rooms and ppl and weapons, including poison. And it is pretty old. I’m think pre-century old. I’ll have to dig it up and look.

Also, I think there was a VHS clue game that had poison too? That was wooohooo long ago…

Clue: Master Detective? I bought off eBay for my wife that particular edition a few years ago–she remembered it fondly from her childhood, so early 80’s. It has extra rooms, characters, and weapons. Including poision.

That’s the one. There’s la few minor rule changes too. Roll 2 dice instead of 1. There spots on the board that let you randomly see a card from a chosen player, and few others. I love it! Tho it has probably been over a year since I’ve played it.

There are a number of different versions of Clue now. I have two of them. My kids enjoy playing.

The cheap one, that I got last year has 9 rooms, 6 weapons and 6 people. It also has a second side that’s a boardwalk that has 7/8 rooms I think.

The newer one, a Silver Line, has 9 rooms, that are different from the cheaper version, 7 weapons, the new one is poison, and 6 people. Mrs. White, who was black my other game, is gone, and Dr. Orchid is new. They give bigger pieces, but Orchid and Scarlet are very close in color and hard to sometimes tell apart. There are also new cards that can be used. If you roll a 1, which is now a magnifying glass, you get to pick a card. They have instructions like “Everyone go to the room of their choice”, “pick a weapon/room/person you want to see”, which makes the game go faster.

I’ve never played the older versions, but I do know there are differences. Both of my versions use two dice. The cheaper version you start in the middle and the spaces are much bigger, as in you can get to almost any room on the board with a high roll. I’m sure there are other differences, but I don’t know what they are.

Why would there be a lab for her? It’s not her house.

Or is it? Dun dun dun!
