So the police wake me up this morning

Looking for my neighbor who has been using my address for the last 15 years. The cop asked for the neighbor and I said he doesn’t live here, he lives next door, but uses my address. The cop asked why. I said why don’t you ask him.

The police show up to my house every time the neighbors call them. This time they were serving papers dealing with a restraining order.

I have strangers walk into my house looking for the neighbor’s vacation rental.

One of these days he is going to need an ambulance and it will come to my house because that is how his phone number is listed, with my address.

I complained to the county but they said it is a civil matter.

Tired of it.

At least submit a correction directly to the local PSAP (9-1-1 center). They should be able to independently update their database. Whether it will stay updated depends a bit on how they get their information on changes of address from the phone company.

If I call an ambulance it will come to my house. If my neighbor wants an ambulance it is his problelm.

If you have the neighbor’s phone number then tell the 9-1-1 center that his number is at the other address. Hopefully that will fix your problem.

That will only fix one of his problems. Since he is so spiteful he can work out how to get his own ambulance. I will still have strangers walk into my house and such. My address is posted all over the internet concerning his business.

If his ambulance is delayed because of his deception, I’d say that’s just reaping what he has sown.

Does he use your IP and email address, too? For all we know, “you” are actually your neighbor. That would certainly explain everything.

I don’t get it ~Olive~.

How is it that your neighbour has continued to use your address as his since 1998?

Because he won’t change it even after repeated attempts on my part. No one gets it. He is just a downright rude and spiteful person.

I still don’t get it, but anyway…

Apply to your council to change the number of your house, or take civil action against him for harassment, and deprivation of liberty or rights or something.

That’s all I got.

If your getting his mail, I believe this could be a federal offence.

I’d call your local post office and let them have at it. I hear tell they don’t fuck around with shit like this. I have no idea if it’s true or not but certainly worth a try.

You’re kind of screwed. This is a variant of identity theft. The system isn’t set up to deal with this. You could tape a big sign on your door, “John Doe lives next door at 123 Any St.” I saw that at a duplex once.

I like the idea of going to your town and getting your address changed to 123 A Main St. Makes it obvious you aren’t his address [until the jackass changes his address on everything to match yours.]

How does he get his mail? Because any mail addressed to him you could return to sender with an address correction. Or toss in the garbage, whichever.

Why is your neighbor doing this? Is he trying to hide from somebody? Is he jealous of your much cooler street address? Is he just fucking with you personally?

If he’s giving false addresses to the IRS, they don’t fool around with things like that either.

Why YOUR address and not someone else’s?

Return any mail received marked “Not at this address - unknown”

If anyone comes looking for him, don’t tell them where he his. Profess to have no knowledge of his whereabouts whatsoever.

Strangers asking you about the neighbors vacation rental? Send them away - tell them there are no vacation rentals here.

Police come to see him? Don’t tell them " he doesn’t live here, he lives next door, but uses my address" Tell them "I have no idea where this guy lives. He does not live here.

You have no responsibility to re-direct anyone or anything to his home. Just tell them that he does not live at your house and you have no idea where or who he is.
Send any mail, packages or other items back to sender.

Do you get the neighbor’s mail? If so just burn or shred it. Put a sign on your door explaining that this is NOT your neighbor’s place of business and do you really want to do business with someone who is such a liar.

I suspect you may have grounds for a lawsuit. (IANAL)

I agree with all of this except the police. You want them on your side in any disputes between you two, plus if they have what they think is the correct address, they might get a bit insistent that the person they are there to see resides at the reported address unless corrected.

Everyone else, I agree, who cares? If the other guy’s life’s made a bit harder by not carrying his water for him, then maybe he will change his address.
