True, that, altitude can make a huge difference. I’m at 5800 feet, but *enipla beats me by far for altitude and sheer amount of snow. I can drive ten miles down the valley to the next town and it’s several degrees warmer, and it keeps going that way.
I should not have my heat on in June. It’s simply not right.
We count on the sun for heat here a lot. Passive solar house. ‘Spring’ is often the chiliest time of the year in the house because the sun is so much higher in the sky. It doesn’t shine in our windows and heat the house.
The sun has been in and out with a few snow flurries in between. So much for reading the paper on the deck.
Yeah, try to sell a boat with this crappy PNW weather we’re having. Who thinks of having fun in the sun when there’s no sun around here? Apparently no one does, because we’ve only had ONE call on it.
Usually we’re golden tan by now because of play time on the boat, but the weather has been so damn crappy we haven’t had a chance to take it out.
The sun is actually trying to come out now, but it certainly doesn’t feel like June.
We’ve had a long, cool spring (with the exception of a week of heat) and it’s still not very hot. It’s rather surprising.
My husband showed me a current image of the Sun today. Apparently it hasn’t had any sunspots for several months now, which means a downturn in solar activity. I don’t really know much about it, though.

23 feet or so of snow so far this year. Sort of lost count. Gets to the point that it really doesn’t matter any more. I didn’t know that the Basin got 8"s, but I’m not surprised.

It was either you or Lamar Mundane that mentioned it might still be open, so thanks (I think it was scheduled to close yesterday). Driving from Alma toward Hoosier, I was thinkin’ how lucky you are to see that everyday. I don’t remember seeing that much snowpack up high in a long, long time.
picunurse, considering our present heat and drought, I’d love your rain and 56. Still, here’s to hoping you don’t get more than another 4 feet.
Got 1" of snow last night at our house (11.2 k ft). June. heh. My Wife and I have an investment property of 40 acres at 9.6k. I think we will hang on to it for a while.

It will probably get up to the mid 60’s f here today, I’ll sit on the deck and read the paper. The blazing sun at this elevation makes up for low air temp. I’ll have to wear a hat. Maybe even put up the umbrella.

Cripes, in Milwaukee we got almost 8" of rain the past TWO days. A record.
Imagine if that was snow?!?!
We did have a record snow fall this winter and even a tornado in JANUARY.
We had a shit load of snow in April, which is unusual here.
All mother nature hell is breaking loose and there’s nothing we can do!
Also, is it true that the ski slopes stay open till about July 4th in your neck of the woods?

Well, I don’t ski anymore, so I don’t keep that close of tabs on it. The Basin closed yesterday. Sort of surprises me.

While A Basin officially closed yesterday, some folks I visited with on the lifts said its would be running ski schools well into the summer up high on the mountain because of the still abundant base up there (mind you this was Mother’s day weekend, but probably holds true). The other resorts in the area, like Loveland, Breckenridge and Keystone, still had plenty of snow but had stuck to earlier closing dates of mid April to early May. Snow wasn’t the issue, maintaining sufficient staff committed to working that late in the season was.

I remember when I was in Colorado back in 2001 (I forget the exact town), we saw people skiing on July 2nd. Not many, but there was at least one lift running and one slope still active.
Those of us on the front range of Colorado seem to have gotten the best of all worlds this year. We are right on the border of the cold air and the warm. Tomorrow it is supposed to hit 87°, and that is the highest temp we’ll have seen this year by about 5 degrees. It’s been pretty much in the mid to high 70’s since April.
Last week when there were massive thunderstorms and tornados just to the east of us, we got a gentle light to moderate rain for about 24 hours straight, very rare for this time of year in Colorado. All that snow up where enipla is was a big concern for us down here as a warm spring can cause big flooding, but the cool temps have slowed down the snowmelt and the rivers are running strong but not over their banks. We had a great season for skiing, and now the farmers, ranchers, rafting companies, etc. are having perfect conditions.
I golfed on Saturday and shot the temperature without ever breaking a sweat. 78!
It’s 92 here in Massachusetts and humid. Horrible weather and tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter and more humid. I hate temps over low seventies and prefer partly cloudy skies.

Today it is supposed to be 103. So, no.
ETA - in case you looked at my location and rolled my eyes, 103 is July/August weather here, not first week of June.
I’m in NC and we have broken heat records here. The last 3 days have been over 100. Even in July/August, we only get 3 or 4 days of 100 degree weather. At least the humidity is low right now.

That wouldn’t surprise me at all, especially if it was a smaller operation that could operate on more of a ‘seat of their pants’, conditions-dictated schedule. Here’s this year’s opening/closing dates. From that link, on the Current News tab, it says 8 of CO’s 26 resorts experienced record snowfall this year.
Taters, as much as I like the PNW I never, ever think of it as a place to have fun in the sun. g
We do our best to keep that part of our allure secret from potential tourists. It rains here all the time. We have 0.0 sunny days and polar bears roam the streets year 'round.
Oh, I know it’s not all that bad, but if I were thinking of places to hang around in the sun…well, where I live is one option, come to think of it. Not too warm, but lots of sun, today anyway.
Central Indiana has had well over 10" of rain over the past weekend. I’m not a big fan of 98 degree weather (which was Sunday while people were cleaning up after the floods) but would rather have the sweat than what that much rain would mean if it were snow.
You can have your Ice Age, I’ll just kick back and enjoy my Global Warming.

Don’t forget the Bigfoots, lots of Bigfoots roaming around, quite scary and um… dangerous, yeah dangerous. Best to go south for vacation this year.
N8 - who would love to visit the PNW if it weren’t so dag-gone cold
I didn’t say it was always warm, but it’s sunny a lot! I get the same weather systems as the PNW a day or so later, but the altitude and the mountains make for different weather when they arrive here. Brrrrrr!
Yep, they’re saying we could get up to a couple of inches of snow tonight. Right now, though, it’s bright and sunny. Chilly, though.
