So ugly, they're cute

I loooove those HAIRLESS CATS!!! I wish i had one. that would be damn cool. I just have two black cats. I think they’d dig a hairless one.

Add me to the “go to the pound” list. You will find dozens of beautiful, housebroken dogs whose very lives depend on you. Getting a pound dog is by NO MEANS settling for less. And consider this: with a pet shop dog, you will be (over)paying someone to add to the dog population problem, . then will most likely be stuck with vet bills on top of it. Pound dogs are very inexpensive to obtain, leaving you more money for maintenance. Please don’t perpetuate the cruelty of puppy mills and the insanity of breeding dogs with genetic flaws (puppy mill dogs are very prone to the kind of terrible inbreeding problems you will have heard about).

If you are desperate for a particular breed, try to find a breed rescue group on the internet. Granted, Chinese Cresteds, Chihuauas and Shar Peis are not exactly lying around waiting to be picked up, but it may not be totally impossible to accomplish. Or look for a breeder or trainer who may have a line on a retiring show dog. My friends got two stunning Abyssinian cats (spayed and neutered, of course) from a breeder who was retiring them.

To those who have bought pet shop dogs and have had success with them – congratulations! No one denies that you love your dogs! It is just that there are many lovely and loving dogs that need help, and encouraging puppy mill breeding is not the ideal way to go.

Sorry to be a pain in the neck – it’s just that I just lost my beautiful, loyal, loving (ex-pound) dog to cancer, and am feeing rather vehement on the subject of dogs at the moment.

I believe that what heresiarch meant was that the breed of dog you would end up with would be a Scrotum.

In which case, you might hear that a Scrotum was The Best of Show.

That was my problem with looking for a dog – I wanted a medium-sized, non-shedding pooch, which pretty much limits me to some esoteric, rare “yuppie puppy” breeds that are never found in animal shelters. Rescue? I’m a single male, and the rescue groups I’ve encountered prefer that the dogs go to either families or single women. Thus, I had to find a show breeder – and a show breeder that was willing to let one of their dogs go home with a single guy, at that.

Eventually, I found a PWD litter nearby, and met her criteria for being a good owner. Now that I have an “in,” the odds of finding a rescue dog or retired show dog are much better.

Cats come in hairless if that’s what floats your boat. Actually, I kinda think the hairless cats are kinda cute myself!
