If only it would make a lick of difference. I really wish I could envision a world where the sane Republicans have their come to Jesus meeting and realize that maybe their party isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
I don’t see it happening, but I pray I’m happily surprised.
Worst case for the GOP in all of this is that Trump and Pence get thrown to the wolves, Ryan is president, and they ram through every tax and entitlement cut under the sun. They might lose some midterms in a couple years, but their Randian utopia will already be established so who gives a fuck.
It’d have to bit them in the ass for it to change anything, and that seems unlikely.
Until the sane Republicans understand what really drives their voting base, it will take massive screwups (say starting a war in Iraq) or really charismatic Democratic leaders, for them to wake up.
The “sane Republicans”? I swear by Eugene V. Debs, no snark intended but…! Where are they? Have we been waiting for the sane majority of corporate Republicanism to re-take command? Maybe they can’t? Maybe they used to be in control and able to con the knuckle-walking trogs to vote for them, but now?
Can they still be thinking they can control him? How soon will they start seriously thinking about how to get rid of him and put reliable ol’ Pence in his spot?
How? Easy. Threaten his money. Just claim that somehow, the Dems forced their hand, and Trump has to transparently divest. And all of it will be watched over, checked and double-checked, and if there is anything untoward, anything less than kosher…fines and confiscations of ill gotten gains.
Of course, if he were to simply resign in favor of Pence, all will the forgotten. Trump is his money, without it, he’s just a hole in space wrapped in skin. He will fold, and go back to annoying news programs with his phone calls and opinions.
And we would have Pence. God help us all, an improvement.
I think there is something to it, to be honest. Isn’t it time everybody started dealing in reality?
Marchs aren’t going to make a whit of difference, y’all go ahead and wear yourselves out! No one in Washington cares about what California wants/says/thinks, but just keep sounding off till y’all go hoarse. You want Kellyanne disciplined for her actions? Yeah, the White House is gonna get right on that! You think pointing out our blatant lies will make us stop? Keep thinking, it’s a new world order, why can’t you see? Let the ethics committee scream, they’ll defund them very soon. They can break up the ninth circuit and wait till they seat a justice before taking the travel ban to the supremes. They have all this covered. They always did.
And now, the left is screaming for them to investigate their own? It seems like the ultimate wheel spinning to me. What do they think is going to happen? That they’ll all suddenly develop ethics?
The Left just really doesn’t seem to be able to recognize the realities at work in the Trump administration.
They seem to be following the same elitist play book that failed them throughout the election, “Can you believe this shit? What a bunch of losers!” It didn’t work for them then and it’s not working for them now. I wonder how long before they can see it too?
The reality is that when the Far Right tells you to shut up, you need to get louder. Demonstrations, snarky humor, intelligent journalism & local activism are all good ideas.
Yes, you’d love it if we just zipped our lips. Nope.
Sorry I posted that in the wrong thread. (And no, I would not be happy if you zipped your lips, I’m not a Trump supporter just of the opinion the Left needs to up its game considerably, is all!)
Charming. So what do YOU suggest, besides doing nothing at all? And when is the Right (you) going to admit this shit was YOUR doing? YOU voted for the orange ass hole.
Personally I think “the left” should keep at it, keep poking, and start some major insulting and ridicule, to force a yuuuuge orange melt down. Make the fucker snap. And then cart him off to prison or the loony bin.
“If we start down that path, next thing you know we’ll all be investigating each other. Who knows, someone might even want to investigate me! Heh… heheh… boy, this collar is really tight…”
ISTM that you’re just repeating yourself over and over. My prior points stand and I don’t think I need to add anything.
That said, since you’ve apparently decided to join forces with my good friend raventhief in speculating about people’s motivations and mindsets, I would note that as your background and career are in “cultural resource management”, it’s likely that you put a greater weight on things like cultural resource management versus energy needs and jobs, as compared to the public and government as a whole. (If I similarly wanted to “risk … over simplifying things” I might put it a bit sharper, but this should suffice.) This is precisely why councils such as yours are not given the final say over things and merely given the opportunity to comment, while the final say is given to those who look at things with a more holistic perspective.
If I were as integrity-deficient as you are I could make stuff up about you too.
