Another thing: Success reduces fatigue. Flynn and Putzder are successes and emboldening. There’s blood in the water.
Before the election, my wife’s sister sent us glurge that Trump was sent to us from god to save the world (my Wife and I are both agnostic/atheist).
My SIL, my wife and I are about as middle class white as you can get, but SIL just expressed concern about leaving the country for a vacation in Cuba because Trump may fuck something up. I wouldn’t want to leave the country right now either. Hard to tell what kind of mess Trump might cause.
Grass roots, baby.

Did you not pay any attention to the news for the last eight years? The Republicans kept up a steady drumbeat of constant outrage, usually over things that didn’t actually happen, and at the end, they controlled all three branches of government.
So sayeth the cowardly bitch who used daddy’s money and influence, to get a phony deferral for a fucking “bone spur” …
And he doesn’t even know which fucking foot it was.
Flynn is gone, and may yet face charges, if the intel and security communities have their way (and deserves to face charges). Pudzer (I spelled it that way on purpose) is out because “someone was mean and asked embarrassing questions”. Conway may be on the way out soon because she is just stupid.
I’m starting to think elbows is a “concern troll”.
I still think that a lot of that would not be happening but thanks to Trump and the Republicans showing how bad they have been in just a month of having power.
There is really a lot of people that never learn that fire can burn them until they experience it.
The ones who were independent, undecided but voted for him and the confident/fearful who did not vote are finding that Trump was not lying about dismantling important for them as they had hoped.
And there are still a lot of very ugly things coming from this administration, so to the usual protesters that did not vote for Trump, we will add for sure the people that told themselves that voting for Trump was a way to protest. They will find that they will be forced to… well, protest a lot more. Because in the end, as it usually happens, protest votes do backfire.
Gah,
I meant to say that:
The ones who were independent, undecided but voted for him and the confident/fearful who did not vote; are finding that Trump was not lying about dismantling important things (for them) as they had hoped.
I understand your concerns, but I think it’s important to keep focusing some of our energy on making sure our anti-Trump strategy is optimal. This necessarily means giving people room to criticise what they see as strategic missteps. Not all criticisms are going to be sensible or valid, but some will be important. For instance, I’m genuinely worried about the possibility of “outrage fatigue”. That is to say, I’m worried that if we pile on Trump too much (not that he doesn’t deserve it), people in the center will just start tuning us out. Therefore, it might be prudent to be a little more discriminating when choosing which battles to fight and, if necessary, telling people to chill if they make a big deal out of every minor screw up at the expense of making a big deal about the things which really matter (ie. the travel ban, the Flynn affair etc…)
If that’s how much good it does to use my calm, adult voice, then why bother? It doesn’t even work with you.
You’re right, it didn’t accomplish anything, but I still feel superior to you.
You’re not listening, are you? Yesterday afternoon, I called my Representative and my Senators, as I do most afternoons these days: I get off work at 4:30, and the Capitol phone lines are manned until 5:30, so plenty of time to make a few quick calls.
I pick an issue in advance, and I have a script (in my head, usually) going in. I’m polite, cheerful, quickly make my point, and thank them for listening, after I’ve taken up maybe 45 seconds of the time of the person answering the calls.
I’m enjoying this quite tremendously, actually, and because of that, I expect I can keep it up for a long time.
Again, the sense of community and bonding and feeling that you’re a part of something larger is invigorating, and that’s what I see happening, and what I’m personally experiencing. Quite the opposite of being worn down, really.
And again, explain to me how these phone calls - which tons of people are making; I get busy/voice mail more often than a person when I call my elected representatives - are counterproductive. Or explain to me how counterproductive it was for the Daily Kos folks to raise $500K for a Dem candidate for the April election to fill Tom Price’s seat.
You really don’t get it.
I used to think there was a brain there. A plan. After all, he got to the Presidency, that’s considered to be pretty hard to get.
But… he started out by alienating the intelligence services and the press. Then he followed up by insulting the judiciary. On Twitter. Like a ten-year old. The intelligence services, the press and the judiciary are very powerful actors. And there appears to be absolutely no gain in what he is doing, he is simply throwing away powerbases due to pique.
No sensible plan involves the rejection of your most valuable tools without gain.
Massive incompetence, it fits to a “T”. Which also fits with his tweets, his appointments etc. At this point, Occams razor is very heavily in favour of him indeed being an incompetent.
I presume this is in the same sense that you’re “starting to think” that Santa Claus may not be real.
Bingo. He’s been President less than 27 days, and there’s been more confusion and chaos in his Administration than in 8 years of Obama’s. He hasn’t even nominated people for more than a handful of sub-cabinet positions, and he really can’t do shit until he fills in those layers. He quite simply has no idea what he’s doing. There is no brilliant plan. Presidenting is hard; time to have a campaign rally in Florida, because that’s more fun.
No plan. A homeschool student of mine and I the other day discussed Hitler’s rise to power, and it was crystal clear that he had a very clear path and plan to reach the top. Ain’t the case here.
Going back to the actual thread topic, yeah, adaher, this isn’t going so well, is it?
How long until they change the name from the Department of Defense to the Department of Capitulation?
Engaging with this person is pointless. Same as B&P. Doesn’t respond intelligently, just repeats the same thing over and over.
Trump is not Hitler–too dumb and disorganized. But take 40 lbs. off Steve Bannon and slap a mustache on him… Or, for that matter, Steve Miller! That guy is way scary.
And it got a lot worse since I started this thread.
How about Department of Regurgitation? Every time I see or hear Trump or any of his crew, I feel like puking.
Bit of an aside: In Guangdong, there is a restaurant chain, Department of Flavor. Best restaurant name I’ve ever seen.

Huh? I live in St. Louis and go to bookstores and have seen nothing about this. Googling around only gives me articles that seem to have the exact same sentence as this article. And most of the people I know are liberals lost in a vast red sea of Trump 'tards; they normally pass along this sort of stuff.
