My husband is a pretty good do-it-yourselfer type, and it’s amazing the little parts he finds for things there. For instance, we have a celing exhaust in the bathroom that blew out, and he found the exact little fan he needed to replace the bad one.
I had no idea there were 3 stores…I thought the one in Jefferson Park (Chicago) was the only one!
No one’s filled a stocking for me since I graduated from HS. I really do miss the fun and surprise. My mom used to put her home made candy in the stocking with the penut m&ms. Then there were the batteries that would run whatever toy you got from Santa.
We still get the fudge when we do the family party, but I miss digging out my very own stash of vanilla fudge.
I am 34 years old. My mommy will still make me a stocking this year.
My stocking usually consists of some candy, and general simple gifts (A puzzle book for example).
In addition my wife and I always make stockings for each other. I try to fill it with small but fun items… tester sized soaps/body sprays and the like.
This is what we do. There’s all kinds of cool stuff in the stocking. We all bring things to fill each other’s with and I kid you not our stockings are 3 feet tall and often overflow. We get mostly practical stuff, but some are cutsie novelty things. I love doing stockings.
I will never, ever give up stockings. In my family, Santa brings the stocking into your room while you’re sleeping. Last Christmas, I got stockings for my 19 year old brother and his two friends, who live in my basement. I snuck downstairs and put the stockings in their beds while they were sleeping. It was just silly dollar store stuff, but it was just about the most fun I’ve ever had - the giving really was better than (almost) any receiving I did that year. The only receiving that was better was when I went outside to walk the dog and saw that my dad had come by in the night and put our stockings outside the back door.
