We do, and I always struggle for ideas to fill my wife’s stocking. The kids are easy.
Ladies, what kinds of things are good stocking-stuffers for you?
Guys, what do you do for the wife/gf?
(Nothing x-rated… we open them in front of the kids… :p)

My wife and her mom do all the stuffing. They put in stuff like deoderant, razors, chocolates, lottery tickets, gift cards, etc. And everyone always gets a orange and a twoonie (a two dollar coin for the non Canadians reading this).
Chocolate is always an appropriate stocking stuffer, especially if it is a bar or two of the really good stuff! Also if you know what kind of lipstick/mascara/other make-up your wife uses that would be a good one.
We always put up stockings for us and the cats. They are usually stuffed with personal care items, lottery tickets and the odd toy.
We don’t, but our gifts usually involve something that’s worth money and then “fillers”. For example one year I couldn’t find anything for Just-Married-Bro that I knew SiL would approve of (we barely knew her but we knew she wanted things Her Way and found nerdy stuff incomprehensible), so I got a set of three matching metal boxes, filled the smallest one with one of Bro’s favorite candy, put it inside the middle one, filled in the space with another one of his favorite kinds of candy, repeat inside the biggest box. He snickered when he saw the box, gave me a look when he realized how much it weighed, laughed when he finally opened it (those boxes sure close tight) and was laughing ever harder as he opened the other two
Other fillers have been calendars, color pencils (small boxes, not a 60-piece Caran d’Ache box!), jewelry made by the gifter in the latest church benefit, handmade cards, pretty pebbles (for Mom’s potted plants)
We used to just do stockings for the kids, but at some point somebody decided we’d do them for everybody. Mom always fills them all and you usually get, you know, socks, and body lotion, and candy, and a pen. In fact, once you’ve seen another adult of your gender open their stocking, you won’t need to bother opening yours. We save real gifts, even small ones, for after my hateful brother and his hateful wife and their hateful children leave.
We only do stockings for the kids, but if I (female) had a stocking I would enjoy getting nice soaps, little travel sized lotions, lip balm, cool pens, a bookmark, tea, chocolate, mittens, socks, candles, sachets…gah! the list is endless! My favorite part of Christmas buying is the stocking stuffers.
ETA: I see you live in my state. Give me a budget and I’ll do your stocking shopping for you!
My parents used to hang stockings for themselves, but only rarely filled them. Us kids got calendars, small toys and batteries(if other presents didn’t come with them).
Thanks for the offer! My wife is a little difficult to shop for, however. But these are some great ideas.
Additionally, she is 7 months pregnant and not loving chocolate at the moment, but that may change by next month.
Yes, and yes. Stockings are a must at Christmas. There’s always somebody who gets up really early and somebody who gets up really late. The rule was always that we could dig into our stockings as soon as we were awake, but then had to wait till everyone was up to open presents. So the stocking was… a peace offering. To quell the natives
For kids, chocolate, small Lego kits, novelty socks, crayons, etc.
For women… Burt’s Bees items, chocolate, dried figs, nuts, fashion jewelry (or real jewelry, since it’s too small to put under the tree), small books and blank journals, novelty socks and undies.
As a child, I was the early one. I couldn’t wait to wake up and go see if the stockings had been filled. My parents always put in one little toy to keep me occupied until they woke up at a normal hour.
Pregnant, you say? There are tons of really nice lotions, foot rubs, etc. that are marketed for pregnant women. Burt’s Bees has a whole line of that stuff. If you wanted to splurge a little, you could get her a gift certificate for a pedicure or a pregnancy massage - someone got that for me when I was pregnant and it was really, really wonderful. It’s hard to paint your toenails when you’re hugely pregnant and little things like that make the last, waddley part of the pregnancy more tolerable.
We don’t. We never really did. Mom sometimes gets me things I call stocking stuffers, (last year she got me some of those 3 bladed razors) but we don’t really have stockings.
I got her pregnancy massages with the first two kids, but this time she mentioned she didn’t want one. A gift certificate for a pedicure is a good idea!
I really like the idea of sneaking a look at her makeup drawer and getting her a new mascara! Most women don’t cycle them nearly often enough (you’re supposed to throw 'em out after 3 months or so to prevent bacterial growth), AND it shows that you’re paying attention to what she likes. Getting the same exact brand and color is important, though. Using the wrong mascara is like smoking the wrong brand of cigarettes: it’ll work in a pinch, but there’s something fundamentally unsatisfying about it.
[deleted stuff about foot rubs, since I was beaten to the punch]
We have stockings for all of us, including the dog and the guinea pig, which are filled by Santa Claus.
The kids get various candies and little fun things like Lego or Playmobil, the pets get a few treats, and we get nice candies and chocolates and one real present, such as opera tickets or jewelry.
We definitely hang stockings and fill them. Right now it’s just the two of us, but by next year we’ll hopefully have a new addition and will have to fill a small stocking with cat treats.
We’ve done Day-by-Day calendars, candy, DVD’s/video games/cd’s, jewelry, silly little toys, etc.
A nice pair of earrings or a necklace at the bottom of a stocking is always a nice surprise.
I made a stocking for my husband, which coincidentally is just wide enough for a couple of CDs. (How did that happen?) I always get a couple of small kitchen gadgets, lip gloss (he knows it better be Clinique), neat pens, socks, etc. Much of the stuff named above. My stocking isn’t wide enough for CDs so those go under the tree.
We dont for at home, but stockings are great for co-workers.
I just did the christmas shopping for the people in my department, and I scored 6 different stockings from the christmas tree shoppe, and a bunch of cute little things to stuff inside, tiny pillows with cute messages, christmas ornamnets that are also picture frames, some small christmas candles, and a heap of assorted candies, canes and little chocolate santas and stuff.
Yes, I have a Christmas stocking that gets hung on the mantle! Mine is appliqued with a lovely fancy Reindeer with twinkle lights and ornaments hanging from the antlers.
In my stocking I have gotten my favorite candies, little cooking gadgets, girlie-bath stuff, jewelry, and a DVD or three.
