Whom? There are four women mentioned in this thread, only one of whom has asked to be considered for POTUS.
I was responding to the OP obviously.
Thank you for clarifying. My confusion was due to your using the word *reason *when the OP asked about chances/odds.
Maybe you misunderstood the question.
I think Chelsea Clinton shouldn’t ever run. It would basically be a repeat of this year, even if we’re looking at 20 or 32 years down the line. The campaign would be all about her and the Clinton legacy rather than about whatever the issues of the day are. I don’t dare predict what the issues 20-30 years from now will be, but I know enough that no matter what the issues are, her opponent won’t hesitate to turn the race into a referendum on the Clinton legacy. If it worked once, why wouldn’t it work again?
And given Chelsea’s vastly inflated compensation from NBC and IAC/Interactive Corp, which combined totaled $900,000 a year, plus the allegations that her wedding was paid for out of Clinton Foundation funds, it appears the apple didn’t fall far from the tree when it comes to dubious financial dealings and questions of corruption.
She also seems just as willing as her parents to deflect troublesome questions with answers no one asked for and to disregard the truth, as evinced by the combined deflection/support she gave to her mother’s lies about landing under sniper fire in Bosnia: “I support what she said. I was there as well and so honored I was there…”
The New York Post claims that Chelsea is being “groomed” for Rep. Nita Lowey’s seat in the House (NY-17).
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Huma Abedin run for a House seat sometime in the next couple cycles.
If Chelsea chooses to run for the House, that’s fine. Normally, I’d say there’s a long way from there to the White House, but Trump is a big exception.
And realistically, both parties are going to have to change in response to this election. Given that, it’s not all clear who will be a viable candidate in 2020 and beyond.
I don’t see it happening. I see her more as a Amy Carter activist - quietly doing some damn good stuff - rather than following in the family business of politics.
I actually think Michelle Obama has a better chance than Chelsea (at being elected POTUS).
Oh, for Christ’s sake.
Obviously having a famous name and family connections can get you pretty far. She’d have a chance of getting elected to a lower level position. But what’s up with the notion that because you’re related to a former president you should be president? What the fuck?
Our country is fucking finished. The only good thing about this election is that Hillary Clinton’s political career is over. But even then, Hillary parlayed her career as First Lady into a Senate seat, and then Secretary of State. George W Bush got himself elected Governor first. John Quincy Adams was a Senator and Secretary of State.
In fact, Donald Fucking Trump is the first person to be elected President who has never held a government position before. Yeah, we’ve had Eisenhower and Grant, but supreme commander of the US Army is a government position.
If Chelsea wants to run for the House in New York’s 10th district, then she might succeed. There’s no indication she would want to do such a thing. There’s no indication that she’s an inspiring speaker, or administrator, or organizer, or has any qualification to hold any sort of public position. I’m sure she’s a perfectly nice person. So’s my Aunt Mabel. That doesn’t mean Aunt Mabel should run for President.
NO No No !! ! We need new blood no more Clintons or Bushes ! People don’t want this , they want an outsider and there has to be a some Democrat that had a chance to win ,if some derange mad man like Trump can win the Dem should be able to find a candidate !
I concur with my distinguished colleague - the Democrats have no such shortage.
Regards,
Shodan
Here is the next president… Well played Shodan.
Thanks like I said I wasn’t up on all the nuances of the law at the time. And I don’t know what her father’s circumstances are other than he was a Marine and he was born in the U.S.
However that is still not settled law. The Constitution is a bit ambiguous about the point and there is no case law. Since there is only one post in the government in which the definition of natural born means anything it hasn’t come up much. If Cruz got the nomination this might have been settled this year.
And remember the illustrious career of … you know … Caroline Kennedy.
running coach is probably referring to the investigation Doug Band wrote about in the email - since Band wrote the email in 2012, the investigation must have been occurring at the time, it may be over. We can’t be sure of what the investigation found, since the email doesn’t say. WikiLeaks - The Podesta Emails
