So what are Chelsea's chances?

When Chelsea Clinton inevitably decides that it’s her turn will anyone be buying? She doesn’t have nearly the baggage that her mother has but she’s still got the last name, sort of how nobody really is interested in electing another Bush.

Who knows? She may not even decide to be a politician. She hasn’t been moving in that direction yet.

To hold political office? Fairly good, if she’s interested. There are plenty of districts & states where her last name will play rather well.

To be elected President? Will depend on what she’s able to accomplish prior to trying. Her name will certainly not play well with some, but a record of good performance could overcome that.

There is a considerable moronic obsession with political dynasties, so yes, there are reasonable odds of more Clintons, Kennedys, Bushes, Trumps etc. etc. littering our future.

According to Wikileaks it appears that she may have used Clinton Foundation money to fund her wedding:

I think she has seen how much bullshit her parents went through and will gladly choose not to enter politics. On the other hand, the Clinton Foundation has done a lot of good and so she may choose to continue to work for it.

That’s from 2012. Surely the investigation is long over and found nothing.

Wikileaks just released the e-mail last week.

The email is from 2012.

Not sure what your point is. This was a private e-mail from John Podesta that Wikileaks obtained and only released a few days ago.

Bill and Hillary Clinton’s net worth is well into eight figures. Chelsea is their only daughter. I would expect that they would be happy to pay for her wedding out of pocket and can certainly afford to do so. So unless someone comes forward with more evidence, I will assume the story is bullshit.

And actually it’s an example of the sort of bullshit that may convince her to stay out of politics.

Given that she’s experienced firsthand what happened to both of her parents while they were involved in national politics, I wouldn’t blame her one bit if she decided to steer far, far away from it.

Well, I agree that most likely the story is bullshit, but this is not a good reason. I don’t know how dishonest the Clintons are, but dishonest people don’t think this way. Do you think Trump would pass up a dubious freebie just because he could afford to pay out of his own pocket? Or remember Lance Armstrong: “I just almost died of cancer, do you seriously think I would risk my health by taking drugs just to win a bike race? It doesn’t make sense!”

I don’t believe it’s inevitable, nothing she’s said or done indicates she’s open to running for a nationwide office. She seems to enjoy being deeply involved in the lives of her family and in-laws; I understand she’s always been close w/ her parents since she’s an only child.

I would give better POTUS odds to either Lt. Col and Senator-elect Tammy Duckworth or Rep. Major Tulsi Gabbard; what do you think of those women?

Duckworth was born in Thailand. I’m not sure if she meets the definition of natural born.

ETA: American father, Thai mother. I won’t presume to know how that would play out.

Dad was an American citizen. Traced his family(and military service) back to the Revolutionary War.

Isn’t this pretty much the same thing as Ted Cruz or John McCain? I think the consensus view is “natural born” means being a citizen from birth and not needing to go through a naturalization process.

Not enough information.

A child born overseas in 1968 to an American parent and a alien parent married to each other at the time of birth is a US citizen at birth only if the U.S. citizen parent was physically present in the United States or one of its outlying possessions for a period of ten years, five after the age of fourteen.

Yes, “natural born” means being a citizen from birth. No, not the same as McCain; when both parents are U.S. citizens, there is no required residency period, although one parent must have had a residence in the United States or one of its outlying possessions prior to the child’s birth.

But yes, the same as Cruz, both to a US citizen mother and a Cuban father in Canada.

There is literally zero reason she should be President. Zero.
