So, what are your favorite DVD's?

I’m upwards of 230 DVDs at this point and I must tell you that the most important thing is that you want the movie. A DVD with a good tranfer and limited extras will be more enjoyable to you than a DVD of a movie you don’t like and tons of extras. Having said that, my favorite DVDs are:

  • Tombstone Special Edition
  • Dark City
  • Brazil: Criterion COllection
  • Memento
  • Third Man: Criterion Collection
  • Ken Burns’ Jazz (pricey)
  • Heat
  • LOTR
  • Monty Python and the Holy Grail

I just picked up Glengarry Geln Ross, but have not looked at it. It is certainly one of my all-time favortie movies.

My personal fave is Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. Notwithstanding that the show is hysterical, the surround sound is excellent, and the features, including the “what they actually said” feature are at times even better than the actual movie.

I also really enjoyed The Excorcist: The Version You’ve Never Seen. There isn’t much in the way of features, but the sound and the added scenes are sensational. I’d say it’s the best surround sound disc I’ve yet come across, perhaps because it is often more subtle. Very creepy.
