I’m online only at work, I checkout SD throughout the day. I didn’t think lurking its’ threads affected my productivity, but I guess I was wrong. This week computer time has only consisted of checking email and weather.
How about ya’ll, how has SD’s downtime affect you?
It was tough for me to do without SDMB. Instead I visited some other sites that I regularly visit, but not as frequently because their content doesn’t change as often. I also went to www.bored.com (because I was, well, bored) and discovered a few interesting sites from there.
I was doing the whole surgery thing with my wife, so basically I did a lot of sitting, reading, running around, and worrying. Every now and then I’d wonder what I was missing here, figuring that the greatest thread of all time was happening, and I would only catch the tail end of it. Fortunately, it didn’t happen that way.
Well, after spending the rest of the workday wondering if my office had finally blocked my access to straightdope.com in hopes that they would actually get some work out me, I checked it when I got home and verified that the site was down. Eventually I got the idea of checking thw Reader site, and when I found that down too I figured that there was some sort of general shutdown. Never thought to check fathom, just periodically tried to log on until last night it finally worked again.
I found this other door I hadn’t noticed before. Opened it, and stepped out into this REAL BIG ROOM I didn’t know I had.
It had this great big blue ceiling. This is funny, it was carpeted in grass (I know what that is - I grow some for the cats) and Conrete (the basement walls are decorated in concrete).
I looked around a bit and thought “Damn it’s cold, I better go turn up the heat. 'Wonder if the messageboard is back up?”
The SDMB was down and I didn’t know it. It worked Monday afternoon at work when I last checked it. That night I spent doing laundry and ironing as well as packing for a two day out of town funeral I had to attend. Spend Tuesday and Wednesday driving 5 hours, doing the funeral stuff, then 5 hours driving back home. Got home last night, unpacked, read my mail and then went to bed early cause I was really tired. I click on to the SDMB this morning and the first thing I learned is the board was down.
To summarize: I was domestic and attended a funeral. All the while clueless of the fact the board was down.
How long was the board down? I haven’t been here since last Wednesday! I guess I was just busy last week…my daughter’s selling Girl Scout cookies, the bathrooms needed cleaning, I made cookies (to tide us over until the GS cookies come!), my husband and I comforted a friend who is horrified by the thought that she may have to go back to her old job once she finishes graduate school (gasp!).
This week, I’ve been sick in bed. I don’t know if it was the flu, or what, but it was bad. I didn’t really feel like sitting in front of the computer. Yesterday afternoon, though, I was starting to feel better, so I decided to check in with the ol’ SDMB. Imagine my surprise when I couldn’t even the main SD page to load (it’s my browser’s home page.) Noooooooooooooooooo!
I went over to Uproar.com to play Family Feud. I haven’t done that in a looooooong time. They have a chat thing now so that you can share the answers. Fun, but just not the same. Decided to try the SDMB this morning. Glad to be back.
Well, when I couldn’t connect, I checked out Una and spent most of my time there. I was at Fathom briefly, but not at LJ. Spent the time updating my blog so it would finally work for someone no matter what. I checked back only a couple of times until I learned what the cause was.
