Thanks, I missed that last comment somehow. Though googling “lychee” images, the pics don’t show the “ass” construct. Maybe the one in question was a mutant or an unusual variety?
Some people have accused the peach of looking like an ass with a stick coming out of it.
The skin of that looks like litchi, but litchis are usually white inside and not … lobed. I’m not sure what that is.
Ah, got it. It’s sala. That picture makes it look round instead of oblong.
Lychee isn’t all that great.

Great tasting fruit. Crunchy, sweet. Had them in Indonesia. They are actually a fruit from a palm tree with absolutely vicious thorns. Harvesting the fruit is a real nightmare.
Salak, aka “snakeskin fruit”. The Balinese variety is one of my favorite fruits in the world.

Those are indeed sala and not lychees. Don’t know if there’s an English word for sala; the wife can’t think of one either.
