So what is wrong with wiretapping?

This is about the alleged wiretapping of Trump.

We go back and forth on if it’s true or not but I ask, would it be wrong? I mean shouldnt the government be looking at the people who are potentially going to be in positions of power?

I am looking at Cecil’s recent discussion of the Rosenbergs where they found out later there were 250 people in the government giving information to the Soviets.

To me, the problem isnt the wiretapping it’s what is done with it. Now if it’s just ordinary discussions or just information about say campaign strategy, ok, that should be kept private. But if f deals were being made with foreign governments, that needs to come out.

It’s illegal without a warrent…I think. Right?

It’s not illegal to not wiretap someone without a warrant… even if someone on Fox News later claims (without evidence) that you did wiretap them.

No. That’s an abuse of power for political purposes. Are you seriously considering that the party in power is going to to treat the opposition party candidate fairly, while campaigning to get the aligned candidate to win?

If there is enough evidence to get a warrant, then it’s a different ball game. That is not how you led off in your OP (see above).

No, the government should not be doing that.

If there’s evidence a political candidate is involved in a crime, they should be treated like anyone else - and have the same legal protections as anyone else. But the government should not be investigating political candidates just to see if they’re okay. That’s a path that leads to dictatorship when the government in power now starts deciding who should be in power in the future.
