Not sure about the stores, but Science Diet canned cat food seems to be coming back into stock at least online. At any rate, my sister was just able to order me some of a couple of my-cat-preferred flavors that hadn’t been available for months.
I was at a grocery store yesterday and their “bagged salad” section (where they also normally had stuff like romaine lettuce and collard greens) was COMPLETELY BARE.
I didn’t notice any bare shelves at a different store, the night before, and I’d been to a farm shop yesterday morning that had plenty of romaine and collards. so I have to assume it was a store-specific thing - but it was still weird.
I didn’t look for saltine crackers at either place, so no clue whether that’s still an issue.
So, I mentioned this to a friend and she laughed. She said whoever placed the order screwed up, that an actual rice pudding shortage was ridiculous.
I looked around a bit and found out the shottage is real!
Yesterday, I bought what I believe was the last package of hot dog buns on the shelf. It was in the wrong place on the shelf, or else someone else may have bought it before me. It took a bit of looking to spot it.
I went to three stores (two different chains) last night trying to find tofu crumbles. No luck.
This is a really niche one, but men’s ballet wear. My son dances and is getting ready to head off to a summer intensive. Since February, I’ve been trying to gather the stuff he’ll need - black & white tights, black & white ballet slippers, and white shirts (they’re made of a specific material, so not just cotton tshirts). It has been a struggle. I’ve been able to find items here and there, when an independent shop has a tshirt or a pair of tights in their inventory, but the stores run by the big brand names (Capezio, Bodywrappers, etc.) are all sold out. It has been the weirdest thing. I’m imagining crates of ballet slippers stacked on a ship sitting out in the Pacific Ocean somewhere.
The park department in my city (population around 70,000) operates 3 public swimming pools. One will be closed this year due to a shortage of lifeguards.
Still short on Saltine crackers. The store had the store brand, which I could not buy due to a potential allergen, and a Premium brand whole grain Saltine with Spanish language labeling. The Premium brand looked interesting, so we’ll give it a try.
I haven’t seen frozen chicken thighs in months. They have breasts, wings and tenders. This is at a couple of different markets and Costco.
Part of my job is working with HOA swimming pools. We’re seeing these same staffing issues. Many of our pools are just running without lifeguards and some have opted to curtail their opening hours. Around here, the lifeguards are typically high school or college kids. The pay is around $13/hour for lifeguarding and it’s a ton of responsibility. The restaurants and other retail businesses are competing for those same workers, paying as much or more without the pressure of saving little kids from drowning.
I backordered some electrical components (XB3-24Z8PT) last week, even though the projected ship date was December 23 this year. This week, I got an email saying it’s been pushed back to July 31, 2023!
For some reason, I cannot find Pagoda brand pork potstickers in this area! DH and I very much like those.
My elderly mother likes Outshine juice bars–local stores here in NH do NOT seem to having much luck keeping them in stock.
OK, per box that’s at least 2x what I’d been paying in grocery stores, and that vague a delivery date range on frozen goods worries me.
How much do you love them?
Try Aldi. They’re specifically advertised as a new product in this week’s sale
Also in in NH, I cannot find diet berry V8 Spash despite V8 saying on Twitter that it hasn’t been discontinued
For me, recently, it’s been disposable foodware. Paper plates, plastic spoons, that kind of stuff.
I have been having a very difficult time finding foaming liquid soap refills. i like to keep the soap dispensers I already have and just refill them.
I have not been able to find any for about 2 months now. these weird supply gaps are interesting but a bit annoying at times.
I’ll manage.
At least I can find the foaming soap in the regular sized dispensers!
I might be telling you something you already know:
If a specific brand and scent aren’t super-important and you can use whatever works and smells decent, there are some ways you can make your own foaming liquid soap.
You can start with either conventional non-foaming pump soap (e.g. SoftSoap) or else your favorite sink-top dishwashing soap (e.g. Dawn). Mix one part liquid soap to four or five parts water (experiment to find that just-right foam-making proportion) and voila!
