ISIS - Talk about a group of numb-nuts tripping over their own dicks… Gee, who more could they isolate?
To be fair, the United States did just that during World War II; had tens of thousands of Japanese people burned to death during the firebombing of Tokyo (Operation Meetinghouse.)
It’s like what ISIS just did to this Jordanian pilot, but on a scale tens of thousands of times larger.
Make them all stars in a Hollywood-based reality show, they’re living the Godless, American consumerist dream and constantly saying how awesome it is compared to their shitty lives in the Middle East. Hell, we don’t even need to really make THEM the stars–they can go work in the sock factory while we just use our mad CGI skillz to make it look like they’re doing the show.
Or even better: we could all just stop pretending we give a shit about ISIS or any other “terrorist” organization so we’re not helping them get publicity. And behind the scenes we quietly and constantly take out their leadership and disrupt their operations.
I think you need to put the retaliation in the context of the country where it took place. While Jordan is one of the more westernized of the Arab countries, it is still an Arabic state. Executing prisoners in retaliation for what was one of the most horrific methods of putting an individual to death, could be considered mild in terms of what one Arab entity has done to another in the name of religion over the last 1,000 years.
It’s unlikely that the US would have had the same response, it simply isn’t in our Western philosophical tradition to do it that way. Perhaps in a time of war, as a previous poster has pointed out, but it wouldn’t be a typical response at any other time. But this was Jordan, not the US.
I’m not from Jordan, but I’m pretty sure this will galvanize Jordanians. My guess is that the term “blow-back” will drastically understate their response… from higher levels on down to street level.
What worries me is, it seems to be working for them.
Let me get this straight - you are comparing an act against an invading foe in a declared, global war that had been dragging on for 4 years, had caused over 1,000,000 US casualties and 60,000,000 - 70,000,000 deaths world wide to the unprovoked killings by a radical terrorist group.
The words don’t fail me, but can’t be used in thiis forum.
From the perspective of the burnt Japanese, their agony was just as searingly excruciating and they certainly weren’t thinking about the legal implications of declared war under international law when they were being broiled alive.
Many of the Japanese who were burnt to death were civilians, including many women and children.
And some of the civilians killed when a Japanese balloon bomb exploded in the American Northwest were children.
You know, given that its less than a week after ISIS beheaded two Japanese nationals, I’m very disappointed with these analogies.

She’s already had a trial and has been sentenced to death. The Jordanian government is moving up the date of execution, which I think is a bad thing. I’m anti-capital punishment, so I hate to see anyone killed like this, but the moral high ground is to stick to your justice system and don’t modify it based on the actions of some entity other than the actual prisoner her/himself.
Why so?
One thing to consider is that every day she remained alive gave ISIS another opportunity to kidnap someone else for an attempt at exchange.

ISIS is probably more interested in her as a martyr than alive. They were not negotiating in good faith for her release. They killed the pilot long before the video was released, and continued negotiating as if he were still alive. It’s bizarre.
They are assholes.
They need to execute as many of them as quickly as possible in the most humane way possible. That is showing compassion well above any standard ISIS has set. A tit-for-tat strategy may or may not work but it will at least help to alleviate further hostage situations. The standard needs to be several executions for every hostage situation on their side with no negotiations. The medium-term goal is that every ISIS member needs to either be killed quickly or thrown in high security prison for life. Some of those may result in later executions.
They are an unusually bad group with enough power now to do real harm to the region or the world. They have to be stomped out at all costs.
For the male prisoners: I think they should be strapped down and force-fed pork & alcohol while Western female interrogators repeatedly beat their faces with Korans and pull on their stupid Taliban beards and at the same time be anally raped by women wearing AIDS infected strap-on dildos.
Come to think of it, this for the female prisoners too.
This should all be videotaped and then played back on monitors throughout the prison after they are put back into GP with their fellow religion of peace prisoners and see if they are killed by them or they kill themselves first. 
The US bombings were done in an attempt to end a war and, ultimately, save lives. It didn’t work and the ante was upped to atomic weapons. Every month the war continued cost, on average, an additional 1,000,000 lives world wide. Sacrificing tens of thousands to save millions, while harsh to the sacrificed, is a blessing to the saved.
ISIS does it for fun.

OPPOSITE ANGLE: A panel of ISIS LEADERS sit at a long, covered table, facing the PILOT in his cage. They seem eager with anticipation.
ANGLE ON THE CAGE AND MULLAH: As the MULLAH finishes his announcement, two ISIS HENCHMEN douse the pilot and the faggots with flammable liquid.
