No-we want to say that we do not have horrific acts of cruelty perpetrated against us. This will not be achieved, however, by doing nothing, and playing nice. Note: the Jordanian pilot was doing nothing, and playing nice before being set on fire.
At this point, one could fairly ask: “How can we stop them?”
We want to be in a situation where the best we can say about our conduct is that the other guy won’t commit atrocities against us.
What people say about anybody vis-a-vis the ‘bad guys’ don’t mean shit, and any nation that is so stupid to factor that in to a response to an atrocity will never see an end to such atrocities being committed against them.
Yes, absolutely. It is called Game Theory and it works. Make them have much more to lose than your side does through certain strategies and then you have a winning strategy. Let’s stop trying to pretend that any of us are the embodiment of Jesus Christ, Buddha or anything like that (if you can honestly lay claim to that title, I would love to meet you). The goal of war is that you want to win and you can’t do that if you are a bunch of hippie protesters matched up against the likes of ISIS, Nazi Germany or any other thousands of atrocious armies of people that have occurred throughout human history. They may smile before they kill you but you aren’t getting anything else other than that.
People are not inherently good. Most individuals have a few good qualities but they can be assembled into large armies of pure evil with little reason at all. History has shown that time and time again.
Why do you think otherwise? Being a peaceful and casual protester is very easy if you grew up in the United States and got to sit down on your parent’s couch knowing you were safe every night. It wasn’t so easy in lots of parts of the world throughout history if you landed on the losing side.
Put them in helicopters and fly them over ISIL areas.
“As Allah is my witness, I thought jihadists could fly”.
Perhaps that is what IS is trying to do.
I think these folks on both sides are testosterone poisoned, and each side will react in a more tough guy manner than the other every time.
" I can’t stand here and watch this anymore. No, I can’t go in there. Children are searching for their mothers and oh, not since the Hindenberg tragedy has there been anything like this." Les Nesman
No, in this context it does not.
So you stand by the idiotic declaration that ISIL “just does it for fun”? Can you name another organization in the history of the world that lead a savage conquering campaign “just for fun”? These aren’t cartoon villains. They are real world assholes who have an objective.
Genghis Khan. Mindless terrorist before mindless terrorism was cool.
This, a simple truth about dealing with a violent world. Many situations have non-violent solutions, particularly in the “congress of states” most situations do these days, and developed states going to war with each other has become relatively rare. But there are still a lot of situations where violence is the only answer. How many girls got brought home from #BringBackOurGirls, about zero, because Boko Haram isn’t some Congressman who committed a gaffe or a multinational company looking to fix a PR storm, they don’t give a shit about being called evil or people on Twitter. The majority of their militants do not have access to twitter, many more probably do not know what it is.
Likewise ISIS does not care about being called evil, depraved etc. Their brand of Salafi Islam that their leaders preach basically says anyone who practices any religion other than Islam in the very specific form they preach is an infidel, and infidels should be killed. This definition of infidel encompasses almost the entirety of the world’s Muslim population and all of its Christians/Hindus/Buddhists and atheists. Ideology isn’t all that ISIS is about and it’s a lot more complicated anyway–but suffice to say you’re spot on, these are not groups that care about college students bitching about them on social media.
There are indeed. But Shagnasty was implicitly defending “horrific cruelty” ( since that was what the post he responded to was complaining about ). So tell me what situations demand “horrific cruelty” please.
[OK, guys…when Velocity’s around, we’ll keep quiet about the Hiroshima thing…]
I think that ISIS has shown “horrific cruelty.” I think that the response on them should be one level above “horrific cruelty.”
Ergo, I can’t say what situations demand 'horrific cruelty."
I think that most show of courage, no matter how vicious, is quite a trump card. Witness 9/11: since then, the US and US media have been sucking Allah’s dick, trying to not offend Islam. It even went so far as to make sure that Bin Laden got an Islamic funeral. Talk about being a bitch. Before 9/11, who would have cared about the prescribed funeral rites for somebody whose head we blew just off?
Bolding mine. Huh. I thought Bin Laden just got thrown out of a C-130 over the ocean.
He was thrown over the side of a US warship by an Imam. ![]()
He was buried at sea with a Muslim religious person attending.
Not sure what your on about but we’re saying basically the same thing. Except I ddin’t say the “campaign” was for fun (comprehension, the new Bigfoot). I said they kill for fun. f you don’t think ISIS leaders enjoy killing in the most brutal, horrific manner possible then you haven’t been paying attention.
Oh, and if you want to call names, take it to the pit. I’ll ignore it there, too.
