So what WAS in Eowyn's terrible "stew" in the Two Towers?

I’m … not surprised that scene didn’t make it into the theater. It’s awkward. (I hope it tasted better than it looked.)

I get that the idea was to fit in establishing Aragorn’s age, but I think it would have flowed better if they hadn’t explicitly said “87”, and just said something like “But that was nearly fifty years ago!”. And then, if anyone was curious enough about just how old Aragorn actually is, they could have gone online to ask the Tolkien nerds, and we could have said “Yup, he’s 87 there.”.

Looks like it could be that or fish. I don’t think it’s anything specific, anyway. I just assume the props people were going for something that looks sufficiently unappetizing, with no specific protein in mind.

This is basically their version of the “Meat’s back on the menu, boys” scene.

I thought it built up to it OK. He volunteers his actual age only after she’s asked him several questions already.

I like the scene. A quiet moment in an action-packed movie, a rare bit of comic relief for Aragorn, and it shows his kingly courtesy well.

It wasn’t just me trying to work out if he should actually be 87 or 88 for that scene then?

Which is a really weird scene when you think about it, because it implies that the Orcs have restaurants with actual menus.
