If we’re going with the best of this season, I agree with Lost and add Heroes for good measure.
But if we’re going with the best of all time, I’ll have to give the award to season 5 of Buffy.

Yeah, that was a damn fine ending. However, things may not be as they seem:
(Season Four spoilers – gathered via the IMDB boards, YMMV):
Per executive producer Cheryl Heuton, “Dylan Bruno is not leaving the show. He will be back next season as a regular character. Fans will have to tune in next season to find out how Colby Granger’s arrest for espionage is going to play out.” Heuton confirms that new mama Diane Farr will also be back full-time next season. Meanwhile, “If fans thought the final episode of Season 3 was big, wait until September,” she teases. “The Season 4 opener is even bigger.”
I’m also curious how the season opener of Law & Order: SVU is going to play out. Just about everyone in the department got majorly effed over in that finale.
Does anyone else NOT like end-of-season cliffhangers?
Lost. Definitely. It’s the only season ender that left me yelling “Holy crap!” at the tv screen.
It depends. Some cliffhangers are well done, others are just done for cliffhangery “excitement.”

Wasn’t there a show… I want to say it starred Samo Hung (Martial Law maybe?) which ended with a cliffhanger of Hung hanging off a helicopter? The next season started and Aresino Hall was added to the cast and no mention of the helicopter predicament was made.
I like 'em, as long as the show isn’t cancelled in the off-season.
grumblegrumble*ModelsInc.*grumblegrumble…
Agreed.
For a great season finale as well as series finale, Blake’s 7 has to be worth a mention.
I suppose nobody wants to be the one to mention it, so it falls on me…
Who shot J.R.???
Trivia - the very first end-of-season cliffhanger occurred on Soap. In the final episode of the first season, Jessica was found guilty of murdering her (and her daughter’s) lover Peter Campbell. As she was led out of the courtroom, the narrator informs the audience that she didn’t do it, and that one of five characters did do it, followed by close-ups of five regulars. (Funny thing though, I can’t remember who DID do it!)
“Lost” was the best season finale of the shows I watch. I was totally suckered into the time continuum bait and switch.
